Hold on to your hearts as you welcome Wilf Westie This fab little fella is just two years old, and has been signed over by his elderly owners for being too vocal. Well, yeah, he does have quite a lot to say for himself - but he's a fabulously friendly little guy! He just wants you to remember that he's around! Wilf has taken no time at all to settle into life at the Home! He's young, lively and happy as the day is long. He was verrrrrry happy to make new friends and followed Bas around like a little shadow! Into the hub.... And out of the hub! C'mon Wilf - chase meeeeeeee Wilf was keen to explore absolutely everything! pool We let Wilf say a polite 'howdee' to new resident Lily too. This lively little fella is looking for an active young home, and would love to live with another dog for company. He's no couch potato, and if left to his own devices he will let you know in his own inimitable way that he is bored, so plenty of walkies and lots of fun things to do will hopefully help curb Wilf's vocal tendencies. If you'd like to meet him please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME for more information. TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, neutering and microchip.

Wow! As soon as I saw Wilf I travelled straight to Newport from Cardiff to see him. Being a purple pilgrim volunteer I've been waiting for a Westie as I'm a Westie lover! I've owned a Westie for 13 years but sadly she lost her fight to cancer last September 2016 & the house has never been the same since. She's left a huge hole in my heart My beloved dogs name was Chance you can see in my profile pic. I missed out on Jessie Westie at Cardiff Dogs Home, but hopefully my application will be approved. Fingers crossed!

He's been such a popular little fella - Wilf is a delight! I know he already has a few applications. We're really hoping that the unsuccessful applications on Wilf might consider meeting Jack, he's an adorable little dog and has been overlooked for so long. How come you missed out on Jessie? She was with us for nearly ten weeks - I think she only left us last week. Good luck with your application

Good luck with your application Thank you....What happened was I was after Jessie for a long time but the staff wanted Pip to be rehomed with Jessie, and I couldn't take 2 dogs. So I'm a bit gutted that they went separately as I definitely would have applied for her. I've walked Jessie a few times & loved her to bits, I missed out - my mistake. I didn't want to be the one to split the best friends up. Hopefully I'm in with a Chance for Wilf x

Aw, I feel your pain! Exactly the same thing happened with Pippa and Flo, and with Ted and Chester The staff said they wanted to rehome them together, and they were waiting far too long. As soon as they made the decision to split them they all had fab rehoming offers. Personally, unless paired dogs are bonded because of a physical or psychological dependency (ie one dog is deaf, or blind for example) I would much prefer for pairs to be split. It really does help them settle into their new homes more quickly, there is such a lot of evidence to support this. Really sorry you missed out on Jessie, but I'm sure the dog who is destined to be with you will find you!

Hello LJ As expected Wilf had full applications very quickly and we're sure that he'll have some fabulous news to share about his "new sofa" any day now! There is no blanket policy at either Newport or Cardiff Dogs Home about rehoming and we consider every application on it's merit. We have plenty of dogs who have been rehomed to families with younger children so please don't feel that you wouldn't be considered! We have some information about the rehoming process here but if you are open to finding the right dog then pop down to either Newport or Cardiff and have a chat with one of the volunteers or staff. Look forward to seeing you soon maybe! Wilf Westie has found a perfect forever home! He's going to want for nothing! Lucky little fella I am the proud new owner of Whiskey-Chase (Wilf Westie) & he has settled in beautifully. He's been as good as gold & listens to us. I can't believe how well behaved he is. He has rarely barked since he's been with us. Whiskey gets lots of love & attention, He enjoys his walks twice a day, meeting local people & their dogs. He loves playing fetch & zooms around our massive garden. I've also been training him to do tricks, he's a very quick learner. He'll be the next Pudsey at this rate! Whiskey absolutely loves water & I'm sure he will enjoy himself in the sea when he comes on holiday with us to our caravan in the next few weeks. I can't wait to take him to the beach! He is soooo happy Whiskey-Chase has definitely got a loving forever family x

Whiskey-Chase is loving life with me. He enjoyed an outing to Caerphilly Big Cheese Festival yesterday. I spoilt him & bought a few things from 'Four Paws Rescue Shelter' stall & I won him a teddy from the funfair which he took to bed after an exhausting day, but he loved every minute of it

Whiskey-Chase managed his 2 hour trip to our caravan in Ceredigion. He had his 1st trip to the beach today & thoroughly enjoyed himself and absolutely loves the sea He ran & ran with me attached to the other end of the lead! He loves playing fetch at the waters edge. He's totally exhausted now & me Whiskey's so friendly he wants to meet all the dogs on the beach & he gets lots of attention from the holidaymakers. He only starts to get vocal when we sit down! He also gets a bit of separation anxiety which I'm training him from, he will get better when he knows he can trust us x
