Poor Poppy arrived at Newport City Dogs Home on Wednesday afternoon.
She was seen lying on a railway track, the police were called as she wasn't moving, and it was thought she may have been hit by a train. She was brought to Newport City Dogs Home, obviously very shaken and disorientated, but apart from some minor bruising, soreness, and shock, she didn't seem to be badly hurt.
However, we were very distressed to see that Poppy has obviously been nursing puppies very recently, and despite the best efforts of the staff they have been unable to trace her owners and reunite Poppy with her babies
It seems unlikely that anyone is going to come forward for Poppy now, but if anyone in the Newport area is offered little terrier puppies for sale please be aware that Poppy could be their mamma, and she was left for dead on a railway track. NEVER buy a puppy unless you see the mum.
Poppy has received the very very best of tender care since she arrived, she also had bath today (thank you Miss Lesley) and she is looking incredibly well considering everything she has been through!
Poppy is verrrrrry affectionate and friendly, we let her do her own thing in the garden, and she just wanted to be close...
She met a few of her kennel buddies and despite clearly being a bit uncomfortable as she is still full of milk, she was more than happy to potter around with some of our little residents, and was completely relaxed in their company
Poppy comes immediately when she hears a kind voice! She isn't microchipped, so it's not as if she knows her new name, but she just seems to love the attention - and the treats she was rewarded with!
If you'd like to meet Poppy, or any of the dogs for rehoming in Newport City Dogs Home, please contact the staff on 01633 290902, or pop up during opening hours. Between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, microchip and speying when the vets consider it is timely to do so.
