Any idea why Cardiff dogs home/cardiff council don't want to give over the responsibility for care and rehoming of cardiff's stray dogs? Seems the perfect set-up to me and I am wondering about the motivation behind the refusal. I know you are volunteers and don't work for the dogs home but wondered if you knew why? Seems crazy to me and perhaps not in the dogs' best interests.

I'm with you on this. Completely. Speaking strictly from a personal point of view (I am only interested in the welfare of the stray and abandoned dogs) - I can't think of one reason why the Council wouldn't let the dogs trust take the stray dog contract.
The dogs would enjoy better housing and facilities immediately, they would have a much better staff:dog ratio of canine carers, the Dogs Trust appear to be offering a whole host of enrichment activities, training and behaviourial support for the dogs, and ongoing support once a dog has been rehomed, and it would seem a much more economical way for the Council to discharge it's statutory duty.
You would think it is a no-brainer from everyone's point of view!
Interesting times ahead! Let's keep everything crossed for good news in the New Year! x

Completely agree with both of you. I just can’t fathom out why, when there is a wonderful alternative being offered, the Council are being so obstructive. With all the cuts to services that are being made elsewhere, this seems like a perfect opportunity for the Council to save money. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Fingers crossed someone sees sense 😕

Maybe we could make a petition for it if enough people cared/felt deeply about this?
