Please welcome Bander Bander is 5 years old, and has been signed over to Cardiff Dogs Home along with his bestie Winston. They are currently sharing a kennel but the staff will consider rehoming them separately. Bander has the look of a little pug cross, and was a little subdued when we brought him our for his pics, but his photo's are deceptive! He is medium sized, about the size of a spaniel, and our fab volunteer walkers have told us he a bundle of energy! Bander has lived happily with children, and she is happy to share everything he owns with Winston his bestie dog pal. As he has been signed over Bander is available for rehoming immediately, so if you'd like to meet him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. We have taken Bander and his bestie twice since they arrived. To be completely honest, Bander (or Scooby-Doo as we have been lovingly calling him), is the troublemaker from these two. He is very barky at other dogs and always pulls towards them as well as towards people, even if they are relatively far. It's like he is both very interested and a bit afraid at the same time and can't quite decide what is the best approach. I wouldn't think this little guy is trying to be aggressive, maybe just very easily spooked. He does like having a good fuss and he has never barked or pulled towards one of us while we are walking together, so I feel like all he needs is proper socialising! Otherwise he is quite entertaining, while older gent Winston goes around ponds, Bander rushes straight into them and splashes everyone around him. Again, I don't think he is doing it on purpose, more so he is not quite wise enough to realise there are other options. Not the type of dog you'd take to agility, but the type of dog the whole family will love for the silly things he does sometimes. Is it just me or doesn't Bander look like a mini version of Scooby-Doo, especially with the blue-green collar that he has! Bander and his friend Winston last week Both enjoy a fuss! At the end they always end up with leads tied in a knot! Until we are ready to go again.

Just wanted to update that we have taken Bander and his friend Winston again today and I had more of a chance to get to know/interact with Bander as normally I take Winston's lead and my partner is the Band-tamer , but today we swapped roles. As it was our third long walk of the day we were quite tired and spent some time on the benches in the park which allowed us to pet and play around with these cuties for quite some time. Bander can get very chill and quite enjoys a fuss if the circumstances are right. He also walks so much better on the lead when there are no triggers around him (i.e. dogs and people that he can see). I really think he has potential to bond with the right person, but if you are considering adopting him, please don't give up if it doesn't work out the first time you came to see him. Come a couple of times, take him somewhere further away from the lane right in front of the Dogs Home. Just sit down and give him some love. Let him sniff around in the grass and pick his favourite strands to chew on. He has his quirks. On a more practical level, I found that holding the lead at the same place while you are walking him really works to stop him from pulling so much, i.e. when he suddenly starts pulling don't let him pull your hand, but also don't pull back, just stay where you are. We found it also helps to walk it off when you meet other dogs, don't wait on the side to let them pass first, that seems to make Bander & Winston more unhappy than trying to convince them to walk away. Hope this makes sense. Bander is not an easy dog to understand, but equally deserving of love as all others!

So sad to hear Bander’s bestie’s gone to a new home without him ,to be honest I’ve had my eye on Bander for a while but didn’t want to split him from his little mate. Have kept checking in on them on the website. definitely come see him on Saturday . Bev

Had the pleasure of meeting Bander this weekend, took him for a walk which was very nice for both us and him. Although he sometimes barks at other dogs ,had observed that it isn’t all dogs and he is soon distracted to move on. Didn’t find him overly “pully” on the lead. We’ve filled in an application and will bring my furry companions down to meet the little guy in the hope they get on. I really hope so as he is a little Sweetie deserving of a forever home❤️

Ooooooh we've got our paws and everything crossed Bander lived very happily with Winston and although he can be a bit 'shouty' when he sees other dogs he obviously loves having doggy company! Let us know how they get on

Visited the gorgeous Bander today and although he showed no negative reaction to Cody my very chilled dog-savvy 14year old cat sadly it was a different story with my young collie Meg. My husband and I parrellel walked them ( both at arms length from each other) and Bander was constantly fixated on trying to get to her, growling several times. on the staff supervised introduction where we tried to let him sniff her back end , he lunged for her with teeth barred. Sadly the staff member said it was clearly not going to work. On the plus side though there was a couple there who were waiting to see Bander as they were interested in adopting her and although they have cats they don’t have a dog already! Very sad we wern’t the family for you Bandz , we wish you all the love and luck in the world xx 💘❤️💛

I think doggy friendships ,like human ones, are very important . Sometimes you can be lucky and throw 2 dogs together and it works out ( my chuahaha would have died protecting his elderly collie buddy) . when 2 dogs gel together it’s a wonderful thing and companionship is precious. It’s sad Winston and Bander has to be split especially as Bander has such a dislike of other canines☀️🙂

I’m chuffed to bits to see Bander in his new home, would have loved to take him myself but he didn’t much like Meg my collie . He seems a pretty laid back guy away from other dogs .I’m sure you’ve picked a gud in there!
