Please welcome our stunning saluki boy, Oakley
Oakley was very badly hurt when he was first found, and was taken in by the RSPCA in the hope that his owners could be traced, and/or someone would come forward with information regarding his injuries. We appreciate that not everyone wants to see distressing pictures, but if you do want to read more about the circumstances click this LINK to read the RSPCA Facebook post.
All enquiries came to nothing, and Oakley has now come into the care of Newport City Dogs Home, where he will continue to receive all the veterinary support and care he needs, and once the vets consider he is fit and well enough to leave Oakley will be looking for a five star forever home.
He is still a little underweight, but despite what has probably been a lifetime of having to find his own food, Oakley has perfect manners around food!
No fingers were hurt, no teeth on skin... Good boy Oakley!
Oakley is receiving the best possible care for his injury, but due to the extent of the damage on his paw and the risk of infection, it will be a while before the vets are sure he is out of danger of losing his leg.
Saluki's are very 'special' dogs.
They are bred for speed, strength, and endurance, qualities that are evident in their long, narrow head and sleek yet muscular body.
Beautiful but reserved, the Saluki is affectionate without being overly demonstrative. He's happy to prove his loyalty through quiet companionship. Not everyone is offered the gift of a Saluki's devoted friendship, but those happy few who receive it are appreciative of the honor.
The staff would prefer a breed experienced home for Oakley, certainly someone who has previously owned a sighthound and is familiar with their exercise needs, and temperament.
If you'd like to meet Oakley please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME TEL 01633 290 902 for more information between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.
Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered, and subsidised vouchers are available for £35.
