Belle arrived at Newport City Dogs Home last year. She was in a pitiful state, having been used for breeding, and having had her most recent litter of puppies taken from her at the tender age of 5 weeks. She was in a dreadful condition, both physically and emotionally. The staff and vols nursed her back to health, and Belle was adopted by a lovely family, but sadly things didn't work out, and Belle has been brought back to the Home.

She remembered everyone instantly, and greeted Jenn like an old friend!

Over the past few weeks the volunteers have been helping Belle with her solo lead walking and food manners, and she had developed some anxieties around other dogs so we have been walking her with her besties to help her overcome her nervousness. Belle's previous 'beau' Buster has since been rehomed, but she is finding it easy to make new friends, and walking with a confident and calm dog helps her relax



Great job Belle! Nice slack lead, and perfectly relaxed on her walkies with Miss Lesley!



All work and no play is no fun at all, so Belle has been enjoying plenty of off-lead play time in the garden too




Belle is going from strength to strength! Lots of regular exercise is helping her regain condition and tone, she looks so different from the poor creature we first met 7 months ago!



Belle would love an experienced home where she can continue to build her confidence. Plenty of regular exercise will be key to keeping her happy. Mens sana in corpore sano eh Belle? 

Her journey isn't over, Belle still needs consistency and lots of love to help her put her past behind her. She has come a million miles and this beautiful young girl has it all to look forward to now

Between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.


Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, neutering and microchip.

Belle has been out walking with lots of different dogs. It's really helped her confidence and allowed her to relax.

My niece and I walked Belle yesterday. What a beautiful girl. She may have pulled a little on the lead for the first 5 minutes but then settled into the walk. We passed other dogs with no problems & she was not bothered by the traffic. She sat and took a treat gently. She looked back and acknowledged me when I spoke to her. She was a great walking partner .

I've walked Belle a few times and she literally loves her walk more than anything! She cannot wait to get out of kennels and she makes sure you know about it! 



She does pull a bit as she is so excited to get out but she soon calms down.  I took her running with me a bit and she really enjoyed it, it's clear she's desperate to have a free run and burn off all that energy she has got.  Then once she'd calmed down for a bit, she had a roll around in the grass and seemed to have loads of fun doing so.  She likes a stroke and a cuddle but only once she's walked for a bit as she's head down when you first take her out. 

I met Belle when she originally came into kennels last year and to see her now is a delight as she is a much happier dog.  She deserves a nice life as a pet and will be perfect for a fairly active family as she does like her exercise

Belle and I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and went for a long walk down Newport Wetlands.  Belle is always so excited to get out of kennels (who can blame her!) and get out on her walk and she does pull like a train for the first few minutes!  After that, she soon settles down and is nice and slack on the lead.




Once she has got her first burst of energy out of the way, she was happy to pose for some photos and have a cuddle and give me kisses.

 




However, this didn't last long and she was ready to be off again on her walk, I decided that Belle clearly had some energy she wanted to burn off, so we ran for the next 20 minutes or so and she was so happy to be able to burn off all her excess energy.

We stopped to have a water break and she was soon rummaging around in my bag trying to find the treats she knew I had stashed in there.  She really was funny looking for them! We then walked back to kennels, met a few people on the way and Belle was happy for them to stroke her and be affectionate towards them    I opened the boot of my car to get my water and she jumped in and found some more treats that were in my boot and ate all those as well!  Our run had clearly made her hungry!! 



She really is a beautiful girl and yes when she first comes out of kennels she is really excitable and pulls but she soon settles down and we have great walks.  She really deserves her forever home now as she has been waiting patiently for a while now.

On Saturday, Belle and I went out on our walk and there was a football festival on the field so we had to keep her away as she absolutely LOVES balls.  I had visions of her pulling me onto the field to join into the game with everyone  so we stayed on the road.  Belle does pull when she first gets out and she is a strong girl but she is young and should be running around so you can hardly blame her for being excited to get out of kennels!    She is a lovely affectionate girl who is gentle taking treats and is always ready for a cuddle.  

We were on our walk and I spotted a toy on the floor up ahead and then I knew what would happen as Belle loves toys and play.  She picked the toy up and that was it, we were not going any further, we were going straight back to kennels to show all her friends at kennels what she had found!



We got back and Belle had some visitors so whilst they were chatting, I was playing with the ball with her and she was jumping in and out the pool to get the ball and splashing herself to cool down.  Belle really is a special girl who deserves an amazing home and I have formed a lovely relationship with her and hope that she gets to form a relationship with a forever family of her very own!
