Hello there, Im Stephen from Beddau, Pontypridd. Last September I lost my Mother to cancer and I was a live-in registered Carer for her. Since she has gone I have done my best but the house is very quiet and lonely now. This is why I am here - to find my new best friend who I can care for - with four paws I think what Friends of the Dogs Wales do is wonderful, giving a second happy life to these lovely dogs who deserve the best. Im looking for a small to medium sized dog and one that can be content with my 5-6 hour work shifts 5 days a week. I have lots of love to give him/her and truth be told the size of the dog doesnt matter to me, except I dont have a large house so I am thinking of practicality more than anything else. I have a soft spot for Staffies, Chihuahuas and Bichon Frise. I dont know what else to say, except thanks for allowing me to join the forum and Im happy to meet you all !

Hi and welcome You've definitely come to the right place, but if you're wondering where to start here's a plan! Make a day of it. Pop into Newport City Dogs Home - open from 11am, meet some of the dogs, and if you come on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday the volunteers in Newport will also be able to chat to you about the dogs in the Cardiff centre. If none of the Newport dogs take your fancy, it's just a half hour drive from there down to Cardiff. They close for lunch from 12-1, so if you aim to arrive just after 1 o'clock you can meet some of the dogs there too. Come with an open mind! Between both centres there are over 40 dogs in need of a home. One of them could be destined to be your forever friend! Hope this helps!

Thank you Baglady ! I most certainly am aiming to visit Cardiff within the next few days and am very much looking forward to it. Yes I do have favourite breeds, but I am wanting to listen to advice as to which pooch will suit me best.
