Please welcome Rocket
This lovely little fella had a bit of a social media outing before arriving at Newport City Dogs Home. He was posted up on a social media page by someone claiming to have seen him tied up outside a shop in Caerphilly from 9.30am until 5.00pm. According to the 'finder' Rocket's owners were located and he was reunited with a very happy owner. What actually happened was Rocket was given away by the finder to someone in Blaenau Gwent. At no point were any of the authorities informed, and we had a call from the family who had taken Rocket in asking if we could take him as they couldn't cope with him.
At no point did anyone involved consider for one moment that Rocket's real owners may be looking for him. That he might not have been deliberately abandoned; he could have been stolen, lost, missing, and if this is the case his owners may be going out of their minds trying to find him. We agreed to collect Rocket, inform the relevant authorities, and keep him safe, get him checked over by a vet, and hopefully reunite him with his owners if they can be traced.
So Rocket is at the moment in the tender care of the staff and volunteers at Newport City Dogs Home. Caerphilly wardens have been informed that a stray from their area has been brought into Newport, and they have been asked to check whether anyone has reported him as missing/stolen during the last 2 weeks.
If Rocket's owners aren't found, he will be looking for a forever home soon!
So what do we know about this little fella? Not a great deal! We were informed by the family who took him in that he isn't great with other dogs, but although Rocket is rather vocal, he passed the Bas Test with flying colours today!
Rocket is a verrrrry affectionate and friendly little dog, and he's more than happy to get up close and personal for cwtches
And he's rather partial to sausages...
And can probably leap a tall building in a single bound when he gets a sniff of the good stuff!
We've been told that Rocket doesn't like being left to his own devices for too long, so he would probably be best suited to a household where someone is around most of the time, and where he will be kept busy. He hasn't been aged by the vets yet, but we don't think he's more than about 3-4 years of age, and he's a lively and inquisitive little laddie. Rocket was pleased as punch when the squeaky toys came out - and we're pretty sure he won't be happy being left to watch daytime TV all day long!
We are still hoping that someone is missing this little guy and his owners will be found, but in the meantime the staff will be happy to introduce potential rehomers to Rocket so hopefully one way or another he won't be spending any more time than necessary in kennels.
If you'd like to meet Rocket please contact the staff on 01633 290902, or pop in to meet him. 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.
Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment and neutering.
