I just thought I'd say hello as I'm new to this forum. We lost our beautiful rescued Collie to 2 strokes in February and I've been plucking up the courage to register as a dog walker...I really miss having Poppy and I thought that by joining the site, it's the first step towards getting another dog. We're taking each day as it comes. I really admire the work CDH does.

hi and welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about your collie, that's very sad you must miss her a lot Do register as a walker, you'll be able to pop down whenever you like and take out one of the gorgeous dogs that are currently resident When you are ready for a new addition to your family, your dog will find you, I really believe they do. My rescue terrier found me and my partner, she made the decision that we were her new family ;D and that was it! You may bump into some of us down at the home, especially if you come on a 'swalk' - we're a friendly lot

(((kyegirl))) firstly sorry for your loss and i'm sure Poppy's passing must have left an enormous hole in your life. It'll take time for that pain to go away. I saw a poem once called "A Dog's Last Will".... here it goes... When human beings die they write their testament to leave their home and all they have to those they love. I'd do such, if I could write, to a poor, desperately lonely stray. I'd give my happy home, my bowl and cozy bed, my soft pillow and my toys, the so-loved lap, the tenderly stroking hand, the lovely voice, the place I had in someone's heart, the love that, at last helped me to find a peaceful end, held firmly in a sheltering embrace. When I die, please don't say "I will never have a another one, the loss is far too much to stand!" Choose a lonely, unloved dog and give him MY place. this is my inheritance the love I leave behind is all I am able to give. ---- Welcome to the team. Just enjoy some gentle canine company from taking a few out for a stroll... have a chat with them... and one day when you're ready, you'll meet one you'll have a real special connection with and who will accompany you through another bit of your life. xx

Well, I took my form down to the home today but was told there isn't anymore places for walkers at the moment. Never mind....I got to take Puzzle out for a little stroll in the car park. She's such a little sweetheart.

Kyegirl! That's something some of us are about to work on!
yes, apparently they are capping the number of walkers at 500 but we're about to trawl through the list and contact everyone, knocking off all the ones who don't do it any more.
So as soon as we've done that, there will be spaces for more volunteers!

Hi again Kyegirl. What Jo said!! Please bear with us. We think many people who joined in the initial flurry might to longer be active walkers, so the list might be artificially high. Either way, please have a look at the events section, join us on the monthly pack walks or come to meet people fundraising and keep posting. xx

No problem I'm not going anywhere. When the 2 senior Kongs I've ordered arrive, where do I take them? I'd really like Puzzle to have one. My heart broke today when she was taken back to her kennel after spending time with her. She so deserves a loving home.
