Please whisper a gentle welcome to the very, very precious Cerys
Cerys was found two weeks ago, on a roadside, having been hit by a car. She was rushed straight to Summerhill Vets in Newport. Cerys was in shock, unresponsive, had multiple external flesh wounds, and it was feared she might have a crushed pelvis. Cerys was immediately put on intravenous fluids, x-rays were booked, but for 48 hours we feared the worst. It was possible that Cerys's frail little body would not cope with the trauma, but we kept her in our prayers over the weekend......
We were absolutely thrilled to hear the vet reports on the following Monday morning. Cerys had shown us what a brave and courageous little lady she is! After 24 hours on fluids, she became much perkier, and to everyone's profound relief the xrays showed that in fact she had no broken bones, just a badly luxated hind leg. This was manually reduced, so although she was still a little sore and feeling a tad sorry for herself, we were overjoyed when the vets told the staff Cerys was well enough to come to CDH to continue her recovery.
And here she is!
Cerys is slightly underweight, even for a pointy girl, but she is on restricted exercise at the moment, and she absolutely loves her nom noms, so we have no doubt she will be looking fit as a fiddle in no time!
Cerys is still fairly reserved, we don't know for sure whether this is because of everything she has been through lately, or whether by nature she is a sensitive little soul. She does tend to hold her tail tucked when she is unsure of her surroundings....
But when she trusts you, she fixes you with her soft doe-eyes, and that beautiful little face just melts your heart
Although Cerys appears to have recovered well, there is a possibility with her type of injury that the ligament damage will cause the joint to dislocate again, so it's tiny tiny baby steps for our pretty pointy for a while. Once the vets are happy to step up her rehabilitation Cerys will be having some gentle hydro, courtesy of our very good friends at Aquadogs, to help strengthen the surrounding muscle and tissue to support the joint.
Because Cerys has spent over 7 days in the care of CDH, she is theoretically available for rehoming immediately, and the staff are taking applications on her. However she won't be leaving the Home until the vets are happy with her progress, and it's possible that Cerys's rehoming will be asked to continue visits to Aquadogs to help her make a complete recovery.
If you'd like more information on Cerys, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm
