There's something really amazing about spending time with an older staffie, I can't quite explain it. But Vince had all three of us won over within seconds of meeting him on Saturday afternoon. Let's get the obvious out of the way, this boy isn't a teenager anymore - I'd see that as a good thing - he's very calm and as he has been signed over from Croft Kennels, we know his exact age of 10 years old. Psst - he's clearly never heard of a dentist, sorry Vince - but you are missing a few teeth! Despite his age, when we got out the toys he was transported back to his puppyhood and it was a joy to see. Vince settled down in the shade and got to work on the rabbit toy. Vince isn't one to shy away from cuddles either, once he'd finished with the toys he headed straight back over to us and, well, we ended up getting these cracking photos.. Now Vince, we may not know where you've come from - but I think it's clear to see you are enjoying where you are right now. You might be in a pound, but you are surrounded by people who love dogs and will make sure every single second you are here is as good as it can be. There is that saying "you can't teach an old dog, new tricks" - We didn't need to! Although we didn't ask for him to stick his tongue out haha. As soon as the treats were out, his bum was on the floor and he waited very patiently for his reward. Not only that, he can do paw too! Vince was a little bit smelly when he came in (SORRY!) and thanks to Paul Mitchell the hair care brand we were able to give him a well deserved spa treatment. Vince stood brilliantly as Emma and I got to work with the shampoo, conditioner and blow dry! Vince now smells great and is ready for rehoming! The staff at the home will take applications now. If you would like more information on him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. I had the absolute pleasure of this gents company for a walk on Monday, he is just fab Vince was very excited to get out for his second walk of the day but walked beautifully for the whole of the walk. He is just a laid back, go with the flow kind of fella He didnt mind which direction we went in, took an interest in his surroundings, wasnt bothered by traffic, bikes or people and gave a friendly "nod of the head" to passing dogs. I took him in the garden when we got back to CDH and he loved pottering around quite independently. Every minute or so though, he would come back for a fuss and gave me a kiss every time If you are looking for a handsome lad with a lot of love to give, come and meet Vince, you wont be disappointed! x

We had the pleasure of taking this delightful old geezer out for a walk this morning - had a very gentle stroll before it got too hot. Vince behaved impeccably, even when we stopped in the sunshine walking back to CDH to chat with some fellow walkers who had Bowser and Thomas. There was no aggression from any of the 3 dogs, what gentlemen! He walked great on the lead, enjoyed stopping for some water breaks and a few treats and was great around other dogs. If you are looking for a well-behaved older dog who won't need very long walks then Vince is the one for you.

Vincent. Never have I walked such a happy older staffie in my life. What can you say about old frosty chops. If he was a footballer he'd be Pirlo. If he was a singer he'd be Dean Martin. If he was human he'd be a wise old man with plenty of stories. But sadly in his golden years he's with us and after years of giving more love to other people than he could possibly ever love himself, don't you think he deserves his days in the sunshine. When I walked him in the afternoon he'd had a good hour in the morning... Did it bother him? No sireee yes he struggled a bit so we just sat under the flyover on the rocks just watching the world go by absolute bliss. Just the occasional kiss now and then to let me know he's enjoying what more could you want. He would suit anyone he's content and happy and just wants someone to love. He maybe slightly older but he's minimum fuss and that's his beauty, what's their not to love. Maestro thank you for making my day hope you spend your days in the sunshine like you deserve you're a star.xx The Maestro

Vincent frosty chops maestro. I picked my old pal up yesterday afternoon and what a lovely day we had. First thing first we had a gentle stroll around Llandaff fields...,well a bit of it and he was very sprightly indeed so he does love a walk. "It's ok Elsie I'll plod on behind you" Then we got back to hotel du dogs, and after a bit of a sniff he settled in nicely, and showed impeccable manners around Elsie. In fact he spent most of it on the lawn what a content boy. "If only I had more teeth this chewstick would be dust" Then in the evening he just wanted a cuddle on the sofa,he's a very loving boy is our Vince and is zero bother. All he wants is a bit of fuss and a cuddle for an older gent he's just fab company. "Not now guys I'm having a nap" Vince would suit someone looking for a nice simple life a bit of a fuss and a walk. He's extremely clean and is so loving he is always smiling and always loving. He may be an oldie but boy he's a goodie. Vince you were a perfect gent you can stay anytime frosty chops but I hope someone is lucky enough to spend their days on the sunshine with you.

Ah bless him he looks so chilled on the sofa. CDH is no place for a boy of his age. Hopefully the right person will meet him and be bowled over by his dashing looks and good manners. Good luck Vince xx

I took Vince out this morning for a half hour walk. Lovely old dog, quite happy to just plod along and have a few sniffs along the way. Perfect on the lead. We stopped for a few minutes and I sat down next to him, he was happy to have a fuss and a couple of treats and seemed to be very comfortable in my company. An absolute pleasure to walk!

I've been looking forward to walking Vince since he first came in, though I was also hoping he'd have been adopted before then. I say this for every dog, and it's true for every one of them, but I don't know why he hasn't been snapped up yet! This boy is just so lovely and gentle and wonderful. We took him out on Thurs morning and from the get-go he was just brilliant. Perfect walker, no pulling at all. He does have a bit of a stiff leg or two due to his age, so it's best to let him set his own pace, but I imagine if you didn't stop him he'd be happy to just keep on walking. He is an old lad and we made sure to stop at the benches for a nice rest and some water, especially as it was a little warm in the morning. He sat and gave paw for his treats and was incredibly gentle taking them. After a bit of a fuss he carefully jumped up onto the bench between us and just sat looking at the water - he was just happy to be with people. Initially he showed a little interest in passing dogs but no aggression or barking, and eventually he seemed to lose interest altogether. He's a soft, sweet, and handsome old boy who probably doesn't want much more than a comfy sofa to curl up on and someone to give him cuddles. And maybe a nice patch of grass to sun himself.

Couldn't resist taking this handsome man out again this morning. I really don't have anything new to add from last time - he's just wonderful! It was quite warm today and by the time we got down to the bus stop by the path to Grangemoor park, he was looking a little stiff and tired, so we decided to sit on the grass by the construction lot instead and have a cuddle in the shade. Vince is a very affectionate boy. Once I was sat down he plodded over and sat next to me, eventually leaning closer and closer until he was half on my lap. Had we stayed longer, I'm pretty sure he might have fallen asleep on my legs. He didn't want to leave Dad (who remained standing) out of the cuddles though and made sure to shuffle over to him next, cwtching up for a fuss until it was time to head back. He takes treats very softly and will do sit and paw, though sometimes will give you a look of 'I'm too tired for tricks, just look at how cute I am instead' and you just can't help yourself. He will try to keep up with you, so try to let him set his own pace for the majority of the walk so he doesn't tire himself out too quickly. I really hope he finds his new family soon. The Home, wonderful as it is, is no place for any dog to stay long-term, especially not one in their twilight years. Besides, who can resist that face for long?

Old frosty chops has had a couple of nights at hotel du dogs, and like my last write up nothing has changed he is an absolute gent. A polite hello to our Elsie,a sleep on the grass or kitchen floor, whatever he fancied or a nap on the sofa. We don't know we've got him he's very loving and he doesn't stop smiling with his toothless grin. Breath of fresh air,he may be older but he loved his walk and was just content to laze around all day. He's no bother to anyone and if your looking for company then Vincent is your boy. Frosty chops you never fail to make me smile and I hope you have your days filled with snoozes and sunshine because if more people were like you the word would be a better place. Stay beautiful maestro love ya xx

Spent some time with Vince on Saturday and he is just the most fabulous, easy going boy. Happy to just be out, we hung around the car park for 10 minutes before going for a walk. He enjoyed just chilling, getting lots of fuss from the Purple Pilgrims Vince had already had a long walk in the morning, so we just went for a stroll to the grass on the Industrial Estate and had a nice relax in the sun. We were probably sat there for around 30 minutes and I think Vincey would have been happy to spend all afternoon there Smiles all round! Ah now thats a bit comfier, thanks Bec! Vince is a gem and he really does deserve the most amazing home. He is a loving, affectionate, funny, steady boy. Nothing bothers him and he is happy to just go with the flow. He'd be happy with a nice stroll to a local park and then just potter with you for the day. And as the pics above show, he gives the most amazing cuddles, imagine curling up with him and a blanket on the sofa watching a film on a rainy Sunday afternoon!! I couldn't think of anything better Someone is going to be very lucky to adopt this boy x

This is how Vince spends his day. He wakes up and comes to say hi because he needs the toilet. He then has his breakfast, then a nice walk sometimes he breaks into a trot for an older dog he's no slouch. Then it's home for these. A snooze on the sofa. A snooze on the lawn. He doesn't ask for much does he? Very low maintenance and very affectionate he's an absolute star. Please consider old frosty chops this lovely older boy deserves a lot of love. Xx

I have taken Vince out a fair few times over the last couple of weeks and each time he becomes even more affectionate than the last! I always stop at the grass on the Industrial Estate on the way back from our walk to have some cuddle time but yesterday was quiet walker wise so I planned to go back without stopping to ensure I had time for another dog. Ah, well Vince had different plans We got to the grassy area and he plonked his bum down and refused to move until he had had at least 10 minutes of cwtches I was walking with my partner yesterday and Vince, not one to have favourites (any lap will do!) scooched between us ensuring he shared the love I always do the "doggy consent test" on Vince and every single time, he nudges for more!! I think he would happily sit all day on the grass getting chest rubs, head strokes and belly scratches. I dont think I have ever met such a loving, gentle, happy, easy going dog, he really is very special x So what is the doggy consent test?? I saw this video on youtube a few years ago and still use it now, it really is a great way of finding out if a dog is enjoying the attention you are giving them. I use it when we meet the new arrivals, and whenever I walk a dog and stop for a rest. For the record, Vince has a 100% "nudge" record It really is worth a watch and give it a try on your own dogs
