This lovely lady is the newest resident of kennel 19, Kaya As Kaya has had her vaccinations she was able to join us in the garden for some play time. She is a fairly dainty husky lady compared to her male counterparts, and just like them she is absolutely stunning too. It was a hot day but even so Laya was feeling in a playful mood. She ran around the garden after the toys having a blast Laya decided that Susie would be her playmate and was doing some lovely play bows to her then skipping off, coming back and doing it all again. She was hilarious:) Don't you think you're gorgeous Kaya? One of the staff had walked her just before we took her photos and she gave her a glowing report about how well she walked on the lead and how gentle she was. If you are interested in Kaya, please do some breed research. Northern Breeds have very specific needs. They were bred to pull sledges, not go for a 10 minute walk around the block. If you are a bit of a couch potato, take a look at a more sedentary breed (perhaps one of our pointy lovelies ), this gal wont be for you! You will also need a VERY secure garden as they are renowned escape artists! Staff will be looking for a Northern breed experienced home for Kaya. Kaya is available for rehoming now. If you have any questions on Kaya or would like more information on her please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. I met this gorgeous girl today and was lucky enough to take her for a walk - she is a dream!
She behaved impeccably - walking gently alongside me the whole time. She was happy to see people and dogs, not fazed by traffic or anything.
We had the best cuddles ever - she so deserves a loving home and her new owner will be very lucky indeed.
Good luck lovely girl X

Kaya is an absolute angel! If we thought there was any chance of us giving her the type of home all Northern breeds deserve, we'd have snapped her up in an instant. I admit I was a little hesitant at first when we were waiting for Kaya to come out, as my only real interaction with huskies has been with very strong and very 'energetic' ones and I wasn't sure if I could keep up, but walking Kaya is like walking a very fluffy and intelligent cloud! I don't think I remember her pulling even once. She kept perfect pace with us both, often walking between us so she could keep an eye on us. We did try to speed up our normal pace so Kaya could have a nice energetic walk but however slow or fast we went, Kaya was right by us! I even tried a little jog/run with her at a few quiet points on our walk (and once I was feeling more confident) and while she definitely enjoyed being able to stretch her legs a little more, Kaya didn't run on ahead of me for one second. More often than not she'd just get started on a little run then realise there was no way I was going to go fast enough to keep up, and so she'd slip back down to a gentle trot. We went up the hill in Grangemoor park and came across quite a few off-lead dogs (and some who didn't want to listen to their owners), but Kaya behaved impeccably with all of them. She showed interest in them but there was no tugging to get closer and once we moved on, she forgot all about them. One curious off-lead beagle galloped over to us and tried to start a hello sniff, but we carried on and Kaya barely even looked back. She's incredibly responsive to commands and even just basic body language. She looked back at us every so often to get a quick fuss or, if we'd been slacking and gone quiet, a compliment. This lady knows she's gorgeous! The hill was getting a little muddy (and crowded) so we walked down to the retail park so we could loop back around, and Kaya got a lot of compliments. She really is a stunning little lady and just loves people! Make sure you take enough water with you as Kaya does like to have a drink, and if you have treats with you, be prepared to steel yourself to her advances! Once she realised where the treats were kept, every so often she'd make some very obvious hints that she was ready for another treat. But for that excellent sit and paw, she definitely deserves a little reward. Despite having a lot of energy, Kaya does like a good cuddle and when we passed the benches she was only too happy to cwtch up and give out some kisses. I can't sing her praises enough!

I was both happy and sad to see Kaya last week again - sad that someone hasn't yet snapped her up but happy I got to take her out on a lovely long walk!
She showed her playful side with other dogs off lead - desperately wanting to play but behaving really well with them and happy to walk on with me! I forgot to take treats with me this time - sorry Kaya. She did drink a lot of water as it was so humid too.
Sian A's post has Kaya down to a tee! 😍
