Scooby Dooby Doooo!!!! Hiya mate! Please give a warm welcome to our newbie in Kennel 2 - Scooby! Scooby is a fabulous brindle staffie lad, with hypnotic amber eyes Scooby is a repeat offender, it's not the first time he has been picked up straying so Scooby is no stranger to kennels. He seemed verrrrry happy to be back! Sharing a rare, tender moment with Aunty Cheryl But it has to be said, Scooby's default position is NOT four on the floor - he has the attention span of a gnat, and loves to be on-the-go! C-H-A-R-G-E !!!!!!!!!!!!!! His other job is as a model for dentistry, Scooby has a fabulous set of pearly whites! But despite his big boy pants Scooby isn't as brave as he thinks! The tunnel was 'interesting', but Scooby couldn't quite bring himself to go in! If Scooby's owner doesn't come forward for him, he will be available for rehoming from 20th October. Couch potatoes need not apply eh Scooby? If you would like more information, or would like to meet Scooby, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Scooby was positively fizzing with excitement when he came bounding out of his kennel in readiness for our walkies recently. So I was fully prepared for this bubbly boy to lead the way and charge full steam ahead down the lane with my arm outstretched to the max in his direction! But to my surprise, Scooby set the pace in a much more leisurely manner and strolled casually by my side or slightly in front for the duration of our walk - I really didn't expect to have a saunter with this fella! Besides walking like a dream on his lead, Scooby showed me a perfect wait (every time) at the kerbside and a very easy-going demeanour towards other dogs - whether they were attached to a lead or not - and passing cyclists. Scooby felt a bit unsure, however, while a woman pushing a baby buggy came into view. It's possible that this was the first time Scooby had encountered such a device, but he was like a dog with two tails once he realised that 'the thing' was made of humans! It was a true delight to spend time with Scooby. His tail didn't stop wagging the entire time we were out (even during his pushchair experience!), and every so often he would look up at me with his mesmerising peepers and a beaming Staffie smile, just to let me how much fun he was having...that makes two of us Scoobs!

Sunday was so busy that by the time we were done with our first walk of the morning, there were very few residents left to take out! Even Thelma had gone for walkies! However we were lucky enough to snag a walk with the very handsome and very smiley Scooby, and I'm so glad! If you think Breeze is a mile-a-minute lady then Scooby is about six gears up. He quite literally bounced out of the kennels, complete with a few pirouettes on his harness as he tried to pop up and give us a big hello. He calmed down by the end of the lane and after some 'paws on the floor', and I don't think he really pulled the rest of the way. A lot of the time, especially on the way back, the lead was so slack that it was resting on his back. Scooby isn't a teeny staffie but when he did pull there was very little effort behind it. He was easily controlled and at times he seemed to almost stop himself from bounding forward, realising he was on the lead and the clumsy walker attached to him might go flying if he did. He constantly checked back with us, always with that big grin on his adorable face, and just seemed so thrilled to be out and about. We ended up walking behind another CDH resident and Scooby, being the lively lad he is, wanted to let his doggy friend know that he was available to play. His barking was 0% aggressive and all about excitement and playfulness, though only certain dogs seemed to get his attention. Others were passed without a peep. He and Lola did have a little barking competition while we waited for him to go back to his kennel at the end of the walk, but his tail was going top speed the whole time and he never tried to tug or pull to get to her or any other dogs. He just really wanted to play with someone! Instead of our usual route we crossed over the road and walked down the Ely picnic trail, and Scooby was having the time of his life investigating all the new sights and sounds. He's incredibly attentive and unlike some staffies, who like to keep their head down and plod on until they're more comfortable, Scooby's head as always up and looking about. He had a nice investigation at the edge of the water, though we managed to persuade him not to jump in! When we sat down for treats, it was actually difficult to get Scooby's attention with them. While he was very gentle in taking treats, he wasn't up for waiting for me to take a photo and if I made him wait too long, he found something else to entertain him. And when you have a very slow camera, it means you end up with a lot of blurry photos! I did manage to get a few though, despite Scooby's sabotage - obviously he doesn't appreciate my photography skills. Sitting wasn't really his style but he did give in once or twice when we asked really nicely. Mostly he just wanted to keep exploring or have a cwtch. As energetic as Scooby is, he behaves impeccably on the lead. This is one very handsome, very affectionate, very happy lad. Fingers crossed he's not waiting long for a cosy sofa of his own! (one of many 'almost' photos in Scooby's album!)

Saw this gorgeous fella while we were waiting in the courtyard to return our dogs. What an absolute stunner, he was so full of beans and was delighted to see anybody that would pay him some attention. Scooby looks like he is a barrel of typical staffie love, full of kisses and cwtches. I am hoping if he hasn't been snatched up over the week to get a walk in with him.
