Please welcome the utterly adorable Coco Chanel
This darling young girl was handed in by someone who said they had found her straying. She has been aged by the vets at probably around three years old.
Coco's rather luxurious coat disguises the fact that she is extremely underweight, emaciated in fact, and she has no muscle mass in her back legs. We are hopful that there are no underlying health problems, and that this is due to lack of nutrition and exercise, not some thing more sinister, so the staff and vets will be keeping a very close eye on Coco over the next week to ten days....
Miss Chris and Miss Debbie suggested that Coco would be more comfortable if she could actually see where she was! So it was a quick trim with the scissors, and voila! Coco took up her position at the rehoming desk!
Can I help you ma'am? Looking for a new friend? You've definitely come to the right place!
Before her brief hairdressing appointment, we wanted to see how inclined Coco would be to take treats, and how she felt about doggy company.
The staff told us that she has been a little reluctant to eat, but Miss Chris's sausages certainly did the trick! And she showed exemplary manners around Bas!
More please!
Coco is an absolutely delightful young lady! Despite whatever deprivations and sadness she may have had in her young life, she adores people, she seemed totally relaxed around other dogs - (Coco met staff dogs Alfie and Maisie, as well as Bas), and she seemed perkier by the minute! She offered her tummy for tickles without being prompted...
As Coco Chanel is so very thin, the staff and vets will want to see her steadily gain weight over the next week or two, so the staff won't be taking any applications on Coco until the vets are absolutely sure she has no underlying health issues. We are hoping that Coco will be ready to meet visitors in time for the Newport City Dogs Home open day on Saturday, 10th December, so if you are interested in meeting her, make a date in your diary!
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed. Subsidised vouchers are available at £35, this is in addition to the rehoming fee.
All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval.
