Please give a gentle welcome to Bella
Bella is just three years old, and is a complex little lady. She has been signed over to the Home by her owners, who took her on to be company for their resident dog. Although Bella was very loving and affectionate with everyone in the household, she struggled badly when left alone, and the family were unable to cope with her separation anxiety.
Bella has taken a little while to settle into the routine of kennel life. Our volunteers have spent many hours with her, just sitting with her quietly, trying to encourage her to eat and to engage with us, and our patience is now being rewarded with tiny pink-tongued kisses, and we are starting to see Bella's playful side!
She really does crave human attention, and is going to need a very patient and loving home who is prepared to put in a lot of time helping Bella gain the confidence she needs. The staff will be looking for an experienced home, someone who is going to be around pretty much the whole time for the first 6 - 12 months.
Sometimes a dog arrives into our care with broken bones, wounds, or physical injuries, and generally speaking these are fixable, we can provide all the veterinary help and support needed. But when a dog comes in with emotional damage the journey to health can be prolonged and frustrating. Bella's previous owners told us that they had managed to trace her veterinary records, and prior to them taking Bella in, she had suffered from alcohol poisoning due to ingesting vodka It's highly unlikely any dog would choose to drink alcoholic spirits, so we can only speculate as to how this could have happened
But let's put Bella past behind her, let's accentuate the positives! She really is a darling little lady, she met Bas and showed exemplary doggy manners, saying a very polite (if a little excited) 'How d'you do' and she was very happy to meet Polly Puppy in the garden.
Bella is available to rehome immediately and if you want more information or would like to meet her please contact the staff at Newport City Dog's Home on 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm -4pm Monday to Saturday or pop in for a visit!
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include first vaccination, flea and worm treatment, and a microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs neutered/spayed and Bella will spayed before she is rehomed.
All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval.
