I have just started getting involved with the Friends and am so happy to have found you all at such an exciting time for the Home. I am really looking forward to the coming year which is a relief as I have been struggling with the loss of my own dog in October. He was over 16 and called Jake, no surprise there ! We adopted him from Manchester Dogs home as a puppy and he was with me through my divorce, my kids leaving home and moving again and again. I have decided not to take on another dog just yet, but will put my energy into walking dogs from the Home - which I can do guilt free if my own dog isn't at home waiting for me! I live in Llandaff North, work in Whitchurch Hospital as an occupational therapist half time - so I will have plenty of time free to dog walk and help. My other passion is my allotment which is by the railway in Llandaff North. I wanted to share my 2 favourite pictures of Jake - just because he was one of the 7 great dogs (from Dean Spanley - a great film for dog lovers if you've not seen it)

Great pictures Rachel. I've never seen the film but just watched the trailer and it looks really good, I'll have to find it and watch it all. So how did Jake come to be in it? I want to know all the details and did you get to see Peter O'Toole

Sorry, my photos got muddled up with the text! He wasn't in the film. Peter O'T talks about his dog 'Wag' being one of the 7 great dogs and so that's how I always think of Jake, and how I guess we all think of our own dogs. It is a wonderful, wonderful film. It totally changed my attitude to dog walking and the whole sniffing thing they do. I would love to hear your reaction to it but I won't say anymore or it will spoil it for you. Rachel

aw, lovely pictures I know how much you miss this beautiful boy Rachel, and I understand why you can't even think about bringing another dog into your life full time yet. But what a tribute to Jake that through loving him soooooo much you are now helping countless strays in his name. Running free at the bridge Jake, you've left a fabulous legacy with your mum that will make a difference to the lives of many, many dogs
