Oh Ruby Ruby Ruby
Ruby has only recently arrived at the home, after being found straying with Gem staffie girl, K27. There's no kind way to say this, Ruby is massively obese.
As she was brought in as a stray, we don't know anything about her past, or her background, but it's fair to say that without intervention Ruby wouldn't make old bones. Obesity is life limiting, and it impacts massively on quality of life too. Ruby should be full of the joys of spring, but we noticed she was struggling for breath at times and she took every possible opportunity to take the weight off her legs.... and onto Aunty Cheryl's lap
Mind if I sit here Aunty Cheryl?
Of course you can sweetie!
We have no idea how old Ruby is; her teeth are sparkling white though!
Ruby hasn't been seen by the vets yet, so she won't be on the walkers list until Friday when her vaccinations will have kicked in. She'll need some belly busting walks! It will be interesting to see how well Ruby tolerates exercise, and how much she enjoys it.... so Pilgrims - let us know how she gets on!
We took Ruby into the vet room, she tipped the scales at 23.5 kilo's. Ideal weight for a staffie girl is 10-16 kilo's, so she's got a fair bit to lose. Don't worry though Ruby - we've got your meal plans sorted!
No more pies for you Ruby! Nothing but the best for our dogs!
Yep! It's Burns!
Ooooooh thank you Aunty Cheryl! I kiss you!
If Ruby's owners don't come forward she will be available for rehoming from 29th April.
If you'd like to meet Ruby, or if you would like more information, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm.
