when the dust has settled here we'd love to try another dog and hopefully get it right this time! have any previous rehomers got any tips for getting a new dog? what did i miss when got max and bow together? she wanted to play with him but he didn't bother with her at all, should that have been a warning sign? there are so many beautiful dogs in the home but i couldn't bear to get things wrong a second time

As well as being chairman of RSPCA for Cardiff & District I was also the homeing co-ordinator for over 22 years. I trained all the home visitors for both the Cardiff & Newport area. I have qualifications in animal psychology (canine). I would be only too happy to advise you in the future with a prospective animal. Firstly it is very important to get the original introductions right, even before you take the other dog home. When you get the new dog home it remains vital you continue to keep things tight and under control. Always remember to treat your original as the number one dog. Always speak to number one dog first, offer offer food to number one dog first. Everything must be aimed at letting him know that he is always number one for everything. Dogs can become very jealous creatures and it is up to you to prevent this from even starting. Most dogs will sort their place in the home by themselves, but require you to set the rule book. Contact me if you ever need to in the future, or even if you require advice prior to even looking to adopt.
