i'm biased towards american bulldogs if you have children. they are so playful and loving towards children. i've never had a staffy but i believe they are exactly the same with kids. we like our rottie because he doesn't bark much. if he's scared by something he'll howl rather than bark, and he talks and rumbles when you play with him and loves to lie on his back which is really funny. we had a collie/springer mix years ago and she was the smartest dog ever, very quick to learn. my most loyal dog was a collie/alsatian mix. he was amazing and used to go everywhere, despite being huge in height and used to fill the back seat of my mini.

forgot to say - the one trait that drives me mad with our rottie is he 'herds' the kids if everyone gets overexcited - he'll chase them round the house like a mad thing and the rugs go flying. remember the scene in national lampoon's christmas vacation when they're all being chased by the squirrel? it's just like that!

Well for me it's spaniels, : downsides energy levels and intelligent (enough to be manipulative on occasion!) ob and tennis ball OBSESSED!! : upsides energy levels and intellect! They are just so thrilled about everything, are trained easily and so loyal! Spaniels have so much personality, I think many would think them hard work but thused just clever.

Well for me it's spaniels, Me too ;D Makes me laugh when you see others with multiple dogs and they go let offlead and more or less go in same direction - take a load of spaniels and its heads down and off they go in several different directions so you need eyes in the back of your head

Haha they are so totally socially unaware of each other! Mine mostly stick together but only because they oscillate around me... Sprollies must be a nightmare!! Our collie has bit of springer in her but thankfully not much, our collie is FAST but she has less stamina and does less mental directionless running than spaniels ( the collie runs with purpose, the spaniels forget after a few seconds why theyre running and so just carry on till they find something!). I can only imagine the speed of the collie running with a spaniels zeal to eat the horse poo on the beach....

;D ;D ;D Oh Skye you make me laugh with your way of putting things!!!! We were at agility yesterday and was laughing to myself thinking how would you do agility with a Springer, when they're thinking "never mind that A-frame, what's in this tunnel?" ;D We see a lovely young springer lady out most mornings in our local park and her ability to run whilst keeping her nose firlmly planted to the floor never ceases to amaze me. ;D

Lol they can run like that but don't be fooled they still hit things! A friend of mines springer drank paint (nice vets bill) because it was left outside in a field and coloured blue, daft poppet figured it was water!

Lol they can run like that but don't be fooled they still hit things! Kara is most partial to large / long sticks... kinda 4 foot upwards... which is funny, when she tries to run through a 2 foot gap between 2 trees for instance... ;D or not so funny when you're out jogging with her and she comes up noiselessly from behind and you get some 6 foot branch thwacked into the back of the knees...

Haha my Patch does that stick thing too... he tries to take whole trees home with him!
My ankles are permanently bruised from being whacked by a passing big stick.

Our household is biased towards gundogs i must admit. Both of ours love the water and long walks which is what we did before and what we do now so fitted into our lifestyle perfectly. Also they are bright and ever so eager to learn, although for all their smarts they are both daft as a brush. As with Skye, the main obsession in our household is tennis balls for both of them. When the grass got cut on the meadow earlier in the month it was a sea of shredded fluorescent yellow which i think is down to the amount we lost to the long grass! I'm obviously biased but i can't think of any bad character traits as breeds go

The ratio of balls lost to found is most definitely in our favour. ;D
