Loved the shooting distance for playing dead. LOL ;D
Sorry for the boring photography talk, but do you use an art filter for shooting or is the effect post production? I love HDR and am just beginning to get my head around layers and shooting in RAW etc.

Hi Cheryl xx im glad you liked my video x you can learn any dog hand signals xx it saves screaming when your dog is far away xxx well done for teaching Meg hand signals xxxxx Hi Kara's mum xxx -hdr is not my thing i tried it and i find it boring ;-) it only look nice in certain shots .Again im not an expert im a total beginner and learned myself so i might be wrong in what i write xxxxx ,i don't use filters .if i try to shoot a place i need to do 3 shots one properly exposed , one -1 stop under exposed and +1 stop over exposed -they are several programs (easier than Photoshop) that can help " mix " these 3 images into hdr -some programs create hdr from one image -(false hdr) -but this just don't look right x . As i said this image have a kind of hdr/cartoony look took me good few weeks to get it this way - by trial and error -im still working on improving th look i want - but i need proper lighting first x For now i need to pay attention to the natural light - otherwise image wont look as it should I also use loads of free editing software -as i think they are just as good as the paid ones. Most of the time i do few adjustments and don't overdo images (like the one you liked x) I would strongly advise you to shoot on raw as it is so much better to correct everything if it happens you mess up or for instance you want to achieve a slightly different look -and with raw you wont lose as much detail than with jpg x Lol now you got me started on photography talk and i wont sh.t up now x

what I don't get with layers... e.g. taking the 3 shots, one at optimum exposure and and one either end at +1/-1... they have to be the same shots... so that's hunky dory when you've got your tripd set up and you're looking at a still life, or the inside of a cathedral etc etc, but how do you do that with a moving object? Does your dog sit there and wink for 6 seconds? ;D ps what do you shoot with?

hehehe - i never used it on animals or other moving subjects you can create false hdr from one image - but again this shot is a "kind of" hdr / cartoon - so that is another thing to talk about i started with point and shoot - some of the images are still on a website , then sony a200 now canon 7d - in between dslr's i cant see much of improvement apart from the fact i can print larger images what do you using ? x

started in days of 35mm with an old SLR and did a course at Chapter years ago in B&W photography with dark room work... then did nothing with it for years... then rediscovered photography while on holiday in India with a point & shoot... then got a Nikon D3000 with the 18-55 kit lens and a cheap Tamron 70-300 to fit... used that for a couple of years now and about to upgrade to a D7000, which I believe would be comparable to your EOS 7D. snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_7D-vs-Nikon_D7000 more importantly I'm saving up for some nice glass, like a really fast 50 for example... I also have a bridge camera knocking around for doggie pictures when I don't want to slog the DSLR around... that one is a Canon SX40 HS with the mother of all capable zooms... e.g. ;D If money was no object I'd get an FX camera like the new D800 which is full frame... but at this stage I don't have two and a half grand knocking around (body only).

Oh my word, that is a stunning photo of the moon. I honestly didn't think a camera could be capable of that and yet you tell us that there's some that can do better. Amazing camera and amazing photography!

;D aww thank you for the thread xxx What freeware programme would you recommend for HDR? I've got a very old copy of Photoshop and can't have a go with HDR on it www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-high-dynamic-range-hdr-software.htm- have a look at few programs -try them and pick up the one that you like the most -or its feels easier to use x Kara's mum - great moon shot -what lens did you use ?- i have tried shoot moon one hand-held as i didn't have the tripod at the time (now i bought one and never tried another moon shot (and 200mm zoom its not enough anyway )

Paty, believe it or not the moon shots were taken with the SX40!! www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_PowerShot_SX40_HS/It's got some fun programmes that are a laugh to play with, such as toy camera, miniature (like tilt-shift!), fisheye etc without the outlay of forking out for a tilt-shift lens or fisheye lens. You can push the zoom to 840mm!!!! can you imagine what an 800mm would set you back as a DSLR lens and how heavy that would be! It's great with static objects, like the moon, which was actually a handheld shot! You'd never hand hold an 800mm on a camera in any other way, you'd need the most mahoossive tripod!! It's really frustrating with moving targets though as you instandly lose them from the view finder, then you have to zoom out, find your target, zoom back in,... by the time your target (bird etc...) has moved... ;D But it really has its uses. :-) Find me on FB, there are some more moon shots on there. www.facebook.com/conny.carnuth
