Over the past twelve months, we have 'made Friends' with a number of local supermarkets, Tescos Penarth Marina and Culverhouse Cross, ASDA in the Bay, Morrisons in the Bay, Pets at Home to name a few....
These outlets have very kindly let us place donation kennels in store, and our team of 'Supermarket Sweepers', Bern, Shelley, and Lucy, regularly empty the kennels of donations.
Tesco's, Culverhouse Cross
Tesco's, Penarth Marina
CDH also receive regular food, toy and treat donations directly, and at our Last Sunday events, and we have had a number of 'special' appeals for food - Webbox for Cheyenne, our favourite fussy-wussy-husky, who wouldn't eat anything but Webbox Chubb rolls;
Food donations from a Meet n Greet at Morrisons, Penarth Marina...
and our famously successful appeal for Pedigree Puppy Food in Jelly, for Jade and her pups. Jade was being physically drained of all her energy by her mahoosive puppies, and was getting through 6 tins of puppy food plus supplements at the height of her mothering duties!
Obviously the dogs at CDH do not go hungry! The council have a budget and this is very thoughtfully and carefully managed, but with some of our 'sticky dogs' being kept at the Home for extended periods, sometimes months, feeding these dogs who are well past their 'due date' impacts considerably on the overall running costs of the Home.
We are very keen to make sure that every donation counts, and every food donation ends up in deserving bellies. We have therefore asked CDH about food donations, and this is a copy of what the Council have posted on their website...
We would like to thank everyone who brings donations of food to the Dogs Home it is very much appreciated. The dogs are fed on tinned and/or dry Chappie as it is easily digestible and meets the nutritional requirements of the dogs. If you want to bring food to the Dogs Home we would recommend you bring Chappie. We like to keep the feeding regime fairly stable to avoid lots of different brands being used as this can cause upsets stomachs.
Obviously, our dogs love to have the 'special' treats and toys that are so generously gifted too, and the Home is always grateful for towels and bedding (not duvets, as the dogs can choke on the fillings if they decide to have a munch on their bedding).
So if you are one of those who regularly donate dog food, direct to the Home, or through the supermarket donation points, or at our Last Sunday events, Chappie wet and dry is the food most likely to keep our dogs Happy Chappies and Chappesses
