Quickie update... Friends met with the managers of the home on Thursday and have asked for an update, we have received this by email today... Just to make you and all the Friends aware that funding has been secured to commission a design to enable us to heat the kennels effectively during the winter. This will include upgrading the electrical circuit to enable the piped music to be installed too. I will ask for timescales for this but I have made it clear that we really need to do this in time for this winter.
Regards
Maria Bailie I am so pleased to hear this, brilliant news

The new beds have arrived The staff are in the process of a change over from the old, plastic oval beds. The dogs seem to love them, but it's not as easy to make sure that the bedding stays put, so Christina has been busy making 'stay put' covers ;D We have used the northern fleece vet bed that was purchased with the proceeds from Kara's Christmas Auction last year, and these are going to help keep our precious pooches warm and cosy this winter. The Home have purchased 3 sizes of beds 10 Medium 20 Large 14 Extra Large The vet bed is big enough to cover the two smaller sizes, and we are going to use multi layered fleece for the large beds. So, we have the beds, the vet bed, the fleece, all we need is elastic and some seamstresses (or seamsters) who could run up some seams on the fleece and sew the stretchy stuff to the corners ;D The elastic is available from Shaws, £1 for enough to do about 10 beds. If you are able to help, please message or post here Many thanks to Christina for not turning me away when I knocked on her door with a bed, a mahoosive roll of vet bed, a two foot high pile of fleeces and a sheepish smile on my face

;D I'm loving it, it gets me out of the vacuuming and I can't bear to think of the pups being cold this winter! I think I've done 7-8 so far but I'm getting faster now so I should have a big pile of them very soon!

I e mailed CDH management on the weekend for an update on the heating situation since Maria's last communication. See below--
Good Morning Bernard,
Thanks for your email. Here is the update you requested. Sarah and I are meeting with the design team at 2pm today to look at the possibilities and practicalities. The design team have to complete the design plan by the end of September. Funding has been secured to get the design done and then the next stage is to secure funding to get the work done. We will continue to impress upon them the importance of making the necessary changes in time for the winter, this year.
Thanks for your continued help and support.
Regards
Maria Bailie Manager Cardiff Dogs Home
Personally I am not impressed by what I read. Funding has only been secured for the ''Design'' Funding for the actual installation has not been secured. When we read Maria's original response we were ''so pleased to hear the news'' We were too optimistic , the way CCC penny pinch I cannot see the dogs having heating again this winter.
If you feel, as I do, that heating should be a major priority and made operational immediately then we must make our opinions known to CDH management and the council. Please write or e mail CDH management and your local Councilor stressing that heating must be provided urgently.
Please keep this thread for ''Heating'' do not dilute it with other subjects.

I'm in Penarth so fall under the Vale of Glamorgan council. Who do I need to write to?

I fall under the Vale of Glamorgan too, so the councillor option would probably be knocked back by them.
I'd be very happen to write/email the local AM though - I think it's Vaughan Gething and he's a nice guy. Would that help or is it purely local authority controlled?
I'll definitely email the home though. Is there a direct address for Sarah and/or Maria?

I have had a reply from Cllr Govier that I think is positive and receptive to our comlaint. see below--
Mr James
Thank you for your e-mail
I am very alarmed by the points you have raised in the below e-mail. I have asked my officials to give me am urgent update on this unacceptable situation.
I will respond in due course.
We will only get the heating problem sorted if we persist in our complaints, it is numbers that count. If it is just one or two complaining the dogs will have another cold winter, so if you feel for these dogs please please e mail now.

I've emailed both.
Have had an out of office reply from Cllr Govier at the moment but the assurance that emails will be addressed within 10 days at the very latest.
I agree that the more of us who contact them, the more the issue will stay in the forefront of their minds.
I will let you know what response I have to my communiques!
