e mailed Manager CDH again and have had a further update --- Hi Bernard,
Following the visit/meeting we had yesterday it has been agreed that the 7 broken heaters will be replaced with new heaters. We hope to hear from the design team, in the next few days, about when that will happen and what heaters they can source that will be safe and appropriate in the kennels. Depending on the solution the whole electrical circuit may not need upgrading and that is what we are waiting on.
Thanks again for your interest.
Regards
MariaThe picture is changing so please keep e mailing it might make things happen.

I messaged Vaughan Gething earlier and received an out of office message. That's a promising looking response you've got there though so fingers crossed!

Forgot to mention that I received a letter stating that the case has been referred to Ashley Govier. I hope that they are quick designing the plans because the installation needs to happen asap. I know a few different people that are already sticking their heating on in the evenings, it'll be winter before we know it!

Great campaign initiated by nuggie! The responses received just goes to show that you have to be proactive when it comes to things like this, you can't just sit patiently and wait. Ashley Govier's response and support is very encouraging. I look forward to the next update and hopefully the dogs will get heated kennels before the winter weather sets in.

I have received great news today from Cllr Govier that I paste below --- Mr James
Thanks for your e-mail and concerns regarding the colder weather and dogs we have impounded at the Home. I am informed that following on from a site visit by the council project design team on Monday 2 September, heaters have now been sourced that will be suitable for the kennels. These heaters are likely to take a number of weeks to deliver and fit and will hopefully be in place by the end of September, but at the latest by the middle of October, before the weather turns colder. There will also be the provision of basic frame and Perspex in fills to top of external walls to provide protection from weather and 2 electrically operated roller shutters on the south elevation
The Dogs Home (through donations) has also bought new raised beds for every kennel and new warm bedding material to cover them. This will ensure that dogs will be above floor level and will be warmer this winter as a result. We are also looking at options with regards to changes to the design of the building that will insulate it more effectively during cold weather while allowing us to retain the ability to create a ventilating airflow during warmer periods. This is likely to take longer to implement and needs to be considered in line with any future kennel refurbishment. We are confident that the combination of these actions will ensure that the temperatures at the dogs home will be within the RSPCA guidance, ‘Meeting the welfare needs of seized dogs in a kennelled environment’, which states; 1.5 Temperature a) Kennels must be insulated to avoid extremes of temperature. b) At all times there must be some part of the kennel where the dog can experience temperatures above 10oC (50oF) and below 26oC (79oF). If necessary, heating and/or automatic cooling/ventilation must be provided to achieve this.
The staff at the Dogs Home will continue to work closely with our Facilities Management and Project and Design teams to ensure that improvements are made to the internal climate at the Dogs Home as well as ensuring that there is a functional heater within each internal kennel. ‘
Kind Regards Ashley Govier Cabinet Member for Environment How good is that ;D Cllr Govier took up the cudgel on behalf of the dogs so it would be great if each of us that asked for his help sent him a thank you e mail. I' getting mine off now.

My last two e mails to Cllr Govier have not been answered, to me that means there isn't any good news. So much for promises. Looks like another very cold winter for the dogs.
