Hi friends. About 6 weeks ago we adopted petal. A lurcher. Just wondered if anyone owns lurchers? She's a lovely girl but pulls on lead when sees other dogs and wondered if I had 2 dogs would that calm her down or would 2 dogs then be pulling? She sometimes looks lonely even though we give her loads of attention.

You need to train her. She will stop if you implement the correct training and socialisation, contact Cardiff canine citizens

I wouldnt get another dog until you are happy with Petal. Getting another dog wouldnt improve her walking and as you rightly say you could end up with 2 pullers. There are lots of training tools available to help with walking on the lead, maybe research a few and see if any work for Petal

We have a lurcher and she pulls on the lead, she's always been on a harness. We went to training classes which helped a lot. If we want her to walk nicely she goes on collar but when she's pulley she's on a harness. She's trained to walk to heal on a collar not the harness though if that makes any sense.

Training first I would also recommend Caroline Cowan

Hi Shazza
Congratulations on becoming the proud companion of another wonderful lurcher - they're fabulous dogs
You've been given some cracking advice on here - and Caroline really is amazing.
However, once you've sorted a bit of training out, I really wouldn't shut your mind to the thought of a second dog. We adopted our little girl from CDH last September and she's been intrinsic in making our lurcher boy much more relaxed. That wasn't the reason at all that we adopted her but it's been a fantastic fringe benefit. He now knows how to play because of her and is much calmer around other dogs.
I'd say a combination of the two - training and a companion - could be a great result for you........and you know there are dozens of wonderful dogs at CDH and other shelters!

Thanks for all your good advice. We have been taking petal to training the last couple of weeks and working hard during times too. It is going really well. I think she was pulling more previously because she was in season. She has been a lot calmer recently. I think I was just so tempted by Dee Dee that I wanted another, but Beccy you are probably right best to train the one I have first. Hope Dee Dee finds a good home soon as I am still very keen.
