Scruffy Terrier lovers, feast your eyes on Sam
Sam was a little unsure of coming out of his kennel today, but as soon as he did come out, there was no stopping him, he rarely took a moment to stop, but he is taking his time to get used to his new surroundings! He did like to be outside though, lots of sniffs and things to see!
Inside the vet room, Sam was still just very unsure. He did stop every now and then for a sausage and after a while, trusted Susie enough for a little cuddle and a few kisses.
Sam is a sweet, lovely dog. Once he gets to know you and is comfortable in his surroundings, I'm sure that he will make a lovely pet for the right people!
Sam will be available for rehoming on 12th April, but the staff at the home will take applications now. If you would like more information on him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm

Took this little scruff out this afternoon, while he was interested in other dogs and pulled towards them he didn't seem to have any aggression in him. He does pull a bit on the lead which leads to him making some funny rasping sounds at times but he soon settled down into a nice pace. He does reward you with a little lick and a jump on your lap when stopping for some water, cute little man!

What can I say about Sam other than I think he has set himself his own little mission to sniff every single bush, blade of grass, leaf, bin, tree and lamp-post on his walk as possible and leave his marking everywhere too. I took Sam out this morning and as a result of his own little mission and maybe excitement of being out he did tend to pull a bit on the lead and choke himself but saying that every now and again he would settle into a more gentler pace. Sam seemed to show a bit of interest in the dogs we walked past but he never barked or showed aggression towards them. I think he was more curious towards them than anything. I did get to hear his voice at one point though when he barked at this hissing Swan who was following us...you tell him Sam! He is a lovely boy and I'm sure would be a great addition to any family. I'm sure Sam would love nothing more than a family who can take him out regularly to new places so that he can continue to complete his mission. Best of luck Sam.

This handsome scruffy boy was our second walk of the morning, and he's such a sweetheart. He was a very eager walker and did pull a bit initially, but once he'd had a chance to burn off some energy he settled into a nice pace. Every so often he would suddenly get a burst of energy, but it was only because he'd found a tree or post he hadn't marked yet. Be sure to bring lots of water with you because this boy likes to let other dogs know where he's been! He was very interested in the dogs we passed and even though he did get a little barky at one point, his tail was wagging and you could tell it was out of curiosity, not aggression. Sam barely paid any attention to a smaller terrier we passed and he carefully ignored a larger Rottweiler who was in the car park back at the Home, so I think he knows which dogs he can get away with barking at! He's got quite a squeaky voice/sore throat, and I think he would probably be better with a harness to make him more comfortable and secure. He was a little nervous at louder noises (car doors slamming etc) but only for a few seconds, then he moved on happily. I'm not sure about his background but if he was found straying, it makes sense he might be a little nervous of cars etc. And if not, it's probably just because he's still getting used to being at the Home and having us strangers take him out. Nothing some love and cuddles can't overcome! It was quite busy when we got back to the Home so we were waiting for a little bit for him to be taken back in, and he was very patient and had a nice few cuddles. Once he's found himself a new family, I'm positive he'd be very happy to have some cwtches on a nice comfy sofa. He eventually got taken off to the garden for, I think, some training with new walkers (not sure though), where I'm sure he was a perfect gentleman!

Poor Sam looks like the victim of a freak blow-dryer accident!
