If you're looking for love, you need this boy in your life Winston arrived at Newport Dogs Home as a devil-may-care stray - and has settled in brilliantly! He's a 'Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home' kinda guy! Happy as the day is long! Winston is just a youngster, and he is verrrrry high-energy. We took him for a walk with Lolly, who has just been bumped off the top spot for 'most excitable dog' in Newport! The two exchanged eager 'pleased to meet you's', but hey, it's your first date you two! So it was on-lead chaparoned walk around the park for our young staffies. Back at the Home, and a little bit calmer after his walk, we put Winston through his paces. He does a lovely sit... Not sure whether 'down' was more luck than judgement, but he did it! Treats or cwtches Winston? Treats? Schmeats! I can get treats any time! Gizza kiss Miss Chris!!!!! Come and get your puppy prozac at Newport Dogs Home! This boy is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! If no-one comes forward to claim Winston, he will be available for rehoming from 19th October. TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm, or pop in for a visit! No appointment needed! Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed aged six months. Subsidised vouchers are available at £35, this is in addition to the rehoming fee. All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval.

He can be a bit excited but when he settled what a lovely attentive boy he is we had lovely sits belly rubs and cwtches too. Let's not forget that Winnie is a pup yeah so everything is exciting and a whirlwind. But please remember with a loving and caring family he will be a lovely lovely lad. It's always a joy to be in company with a smiley staffie, and Winston is no exception. He was full of beans before our walk recently, and raring to get going. Poor lad had been in his kennel for many hours, so I was expecting him to lead the way as fast as his little legs could carry him. But as soon as we were through the Home's gate, he slowed the pace down considerably so as to explore the wealth of new smells - he was like a badger snuffling for earthworms when we entered the field! And in consequence, my anticipated bout of power walking with Winston turned into a leisurely stroll (I have to admit I was a tad relieved!). Apart from putting tracker dogs to shame, Winston won my heart, wrapping me around his little paw in the process. On one occasion he abruptly stopped sniffing and flopped down in the grass, not wanting to budge. He then promptly rolled over onto his back for a tummy tickle - aww bless! He showed his loving side again when we stopped at a bench for a cwtch break. Once I had sat down, I encouraged Winston to jump up and sit next to me. He didn't take much coaxing of course (he's a staffie after all!) - he leapt at the chance to enjoy a spell of togetherness with a two-legged friend, and duly cuddled up for hugs and kisses. As far as I could tell, Winston didn't have any issues with other dogs. There were a few pooches a little distance away from us and all walking off-lead, but Winston didn't take any notice of them - he was relishing every moment he had to investigate each and every scent too much! I hope the opportunity for this sweet-natured, friendly and loving boy to snuggle up with his forever folk will arrive before long. He's a little treasure and will be a great boon to the right family. Come and meet wonderful Winston at the open day tomorrow - you'll receive a happy and ever so friendly welcome from this woofer.

We have had Winston since 11 -30 this morning . First Concern was how he would react to a car journey from The Kennels to Llanbradach . As soon as he got in the car it was obvious that he had been in one before and was fast asleep within minutes .
2nd Concern -How would he react to new surroundings since being in kennels for so long . He came in took a look around and made himself at home .
3rd Concern - How would he be on the lead when taken for a walk in his new surroundings . No worries he took it all in his stride and met a few people along the way .
After losing our previous dog to the big C we did take our time looking for the right one and thought long and hard about having another Staff . We could not have wished for a better first day with Winston and he has quickly found his place with us .He craves the attention of everyone and is obvious that he has had some training in the past .
Thanks to Sue and everyone at Newport who pushed it for us to have him today . Winston was very pleased with his xmas box that you gave him before he left . I will of course keep you updated with his progress and post pictures for you to see .

Just to give you an update on Winston - He is one happy pooch two months in and he has not put a paw wrong , finally allowed him off the lead down our local park and on the mountain walk near us . Little bit apprehensive on our part but he was superb and it looks like his previous owner spent a lot of time training him so its mystifying why Winston ended up in the kennels . Its their loss and our gain he still has the high energy level of a young staff but is such a character that its great to see him enjoying the family life he so richly deserved. Unfortunately i do not know how to add pictures of him onto this thread some help needed thanks .
