This very handsome boy is Jax Jax is a wonderful German Shepard who is just 2 years old and has been signed over due to his owner no longer being able to give him what he needs He must be very confused, and if you've seen him in his kennel you'll know that he's pretty vocal in there, but once out of it he's lovely We spent some garden time with Jax and found that he has really good manners. Would you like my paw Ricki? Ok no problem... He'd happily trot about the garden with the toys But always returned to us, and was happy to just lie down next to Ricki Apparently Jax went out for a walk this morning and enjoyed a bit of a run, but I can vouch for the fact that this boy is super strong so be prepared if you come to walk him Jax is just amazing, if you're a fan of GSD's you need to meet him! He's available for rehoming from 31st October. If you would like more information, or would like to meet Jax, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Jax, where do I begin!!! So I took my parents down to the dogs home yesterday, with no one really in mind of who we wanted to walk - anyone who needed it really! When one of the staff asked if we would mind taking a young German Shepherd out because he needed a bit of a run we were over the moon. My parents are huge German Shepherd fans, having one of their own named Casper, who sadly had to be put down a few years ago and my father growing up with two. Out bounded Jax, what a stunning boy!! I won't lie and say he didn't pull because of course he did, a young GSD out for his first walk in a few days, what else can you expect!! Treats and fuss were on offer but Jax wanted to sniff everything and know where everything was and what everything was. We trotted off towards the Ely trail. After a while Jax did ease off with the pulling and seemed to be a bit more interested in the treats from earlier Jax does a cracking sit and paw! We came across one little staffie on our walk and Jax was very excited, whining and a little barking, but you could see it wasn't out of aggression he just wanted to play. It's a shame that GSD's get a bad reputation because their barks can sound nasty but I don't think he would hurt a fly. We took him down to the water to see if he was a water dog, I don't think he could decide himself, he'd put his paw in the water then walk away then back, he was so confused bless him! He showed his real puppy side when he found a stick, guarding it with his life.Jax can be a little boisterous when playing but he's a big dog! He had so much energy, and the lady we spoke to at the home asked if we could "run the legs off him" so Jax and I had a run down by the river, Jax loved it. Any GSD lover will fall head over heels with this boy, just like we did. We would've put in an application ourselves if we didn't have a little cat who may not get along with Jax so well! I hope this gorgeous boy gets his new family very soon!

Right, today I arrived at the home and asked for Jax I had read that he was super strong, so knew what was awaiting me! Jax came out, full of energy, the hand over was more like an olympic relay race, grab and keep on gooooing! Yes Jax is super strong, good job I had my heavy CAT boots on as the extra grip was welcome Jax wanted to sniff everything down the lane, and was not sure what side was the best smelling side! Anyhow, lets powerwalk down to the river and see what happens! Jax did stop pulling when we got to grass, and he was so happy to just sniff and be a dog, it seems like Jax has not had much of a chance to just be a dog, so things like grass, a smelly tree and the water and the mud down by the river seemed all new to him and just a little bit exciting! Now, lets get to that water and mud part.... Jax was quite confused about the water, it was like he had never seen a large body of water before! He dug at the riverbank, before barking at the water, maybe to see if it did anything! Jax then thought it might be a good idea to put his whole head underwater, he did this a number of times and did seem to be enjoying his new found love of water He was almost like a pup! Jax, through digging the river bank and dipping his head, had made the area VERY muddy, but Jax was having fun and didn't seem to care about a little mud He even some how got mud on his tongue! He did at one point think it might be a good idea to go into the river and wash the mud off But he just got all muddy again! I really enjoyed my time with Jax. He does a fab sit and paw, he did jump around like and oversized pup at one point when I started talking to him! He really wants a family to show him what it's like to do doggy things, and have fun! This boy is strong, but he's a ton of love once he gets to know you. Come and give Jax a chance, I am sure you will have a friend for life

Took Jax out for a walk last weekend. After asking for Jax, I saw the staff member behind the glass door trying to clear people out of the walkway, as soon as the door opened she and Jax flew through the walkway into the yard like a rocket! He was so excited to go for a walk.
I'll start with this, Jax is strong and was very excited to be out and about, so for the first 30 minutes or so it was clear he was the one taking us for a walk. We came across a few other dogs and Jax was rather interested in trying to go and say hello, he didn't bark and wasn't aggressive but he was a little nosey.
Jax drinks A LOT of water. He went through both of our sports bottles, his dog walker bottle and we had to stop at ASDA to buy a 2L bottle of water, of which he drank over half. So take plenty with you future walkers! Aside from drinking the stuff Jax also seemed to just love water, we had to take a diversion towards every puddle we came across so he could walk through it, setting his tail wagging.
We had a squeaky toy pig with us that we decided to let Jax have a play with after we'd been out about an hour. We found a clearing with some benches and gave Jax the toy. He loved it! After a while of tossing it about and chasing it he decided to clamp onto it and never let it go. This actually made him easier to walk. When my partner popped into ASDA to purchase the aforementioned water, I sat with Jax for a while, where he was calm and happy to just sit and be stroked. When it was time to move on, Jax started to tear the toy apart, so making sure he didn't swallow any small bits we went to take it from him. He wasn't having any of it! We started walking and he got distracted by a bush, dropped the toy which we quickly scooped up and went to put in the bin, Jax was so upset, he started crying and got down on the floor in a sulk. We felt so guilty. When we walk passed the bin we used to dispose of the toy Jax jumped on it and tried seeing if he could find his toy, we felt so mean it was heart-breaking. Five minutes later though and it was if the toy had never existed, he was back to his excitable self, smelling bushes, plodding through puddles and having a good solid walk.
Back at the home and I sat with Jax again in the car park, he was happy to just sit there and be fussed over. All in all we were out for around 2 hours. I hope Jax finds a home soon, he's a great dog who just needs a bit of training and to know he's going to get regular exercise.

Go and meet him, he's fab! If you see him in his kennel please don't let his barking put you off, get the staff to bring him out to meet you and you'll see what a lovely sweet boy he is. He just isn't a fan of being in his kennel, fair enough really!

Had good chat on phone with staff on Sunday afternoon and phoned again today. Fingers crossed Jax will still available for rehoming as Friday afternoon is the earliest I can come over. Hoping to meet him and take him for a walk. All being well, the rest of the family, including Kimmy our dog, can meet and walk him at the weekend . . . 😀
