Is this the cutest 'head-tilt' you ever saw? Please give a warm welcome to the rather scrummy Mr Bale! This little chap has been signed over to the Home by his previous owner, who says he is good with other dogs and children, but can be a little vocal. Hey ho, we've yet to meet a silent puppy We're not sure who named him, but despite our efforts, we simply couldn't get Mr Bale to show any interest whatsoever in a ball! It might be he's simply not used to chasing toys, but he was happy to tear around the garden chasing imaginary flies! Mr Bale has impeccable manners, and knows how to ask nicely for treats! Aw g'wan, gissa sausage!
And he knows how to take even the tastiest tit-bits verrrrry gently! Good boy Mr Bale! Nom Nom! Thank you Aunty June! Mr Bale is nosy, as you would expect! He didn't want to be over-petted, but that's understandable. He's probably missing his family. Don't worry little guy, we'll find you the perfect forever peeps! As he has been signed over, and is fully vaccinated, Mr Bale is available for rehoming as soon as he has had a check over by our vets, so be quick if you'd like to meet him! If you would like more information please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click on the link below: REHOMING PROCESS

We took the lively Bale out this morning for a quick walk. He was absolutely lovely with the kids and has plenty of energy. This little pocket rocket could do with an active home where he can burn off his puppy energy. Hope this sweet little boy finds his forever family soon.

How is he still looking for a home? Very tempted to see if he'd be a good companion for Bruce who we adopted in July.

What a sweet boy you are, Mr Bale! He took me out for a very brisk walk this morning! The staff had warned me he's a bit reactive with the traffic and they weren't wrong!!! He loves to bark and dance around if the cars are too close and he stops and stares at the trains!!! But all in all a lovely, friendly dog. We walked to the chain link statue in Grangemoor and had a sit and a cwtch and watched the world go by for a few minutes and then we were off again at full pelt!!!! Can't believe he's still waiting for his forever home! C'mon peeps, what you waiting for, he's an absolute delight!!!! X

This bundle of excitement came home for a visit last week. He just loves having new places to explore and sniff .......... ...new toys to play with ............ and new people to meet...... Whoever is fortunate enough to give this pup a home is never going short of entertainment.

Mr Bale is still waiting to meet his forever family We're pretty sure he has had a very uninteresting and dull puppyhood, probably left to his own devices all day long, and his only source of entertainment was watching traffic go past. Mr Bale clearly had no basic training, he wasn't used to being walked on lead, and as we found pretty much as soon as he arrived, he wasn't familiar with the concept of 'play' and had little interest in people, or being petted, as he simply wasn't used to humans being in the least bit interesting or fun As a result, Mr Bale had very little focus when out on his walks, and a very short attention span for anything other than traffic - which represents the only thing that has ever excited him. Some of our walkers will know that Mr Bale has struggled to keep his composure around moving cars, and tended to work himself up into a frenzy - sometimes with unfortunate consequences. So we have been doing some work with Bale to help him overcome his impulse to chase cars, to replace his unhealthy fixation with more appropriate objects of desire, and to help him control his excitement levels. It's normal for dogs to become excited, but we want to teach Mr Bale how to 'come down - calm down' rather than become hyper stimulated. This is a journey for us! We really don't know what will be possible, but we'd like you to share Mr Bale's journey with us, to see the possibilities. Many people give up on a dog when the going gets tough, or when s/he displays any challenging behaviours. We have no idea how much improvement we will see, or how long it will take. This isn't going to be a 'quick fix', but doing nothing just isn't an option for Mr Bale, so here goes...... Week one. We are keeping Mr Bale completely away from traffic, and only working with him in the garden. He has his morning meal - BURNS of course - in an interactive feeder in his kennel. He has to work for it - and it provides him with fun and stimulation. Interactive feeders help relieve the boredom of kennel life - perfect for little guys like Mr Bale! It took a while to find a toy that interested Bale - long furry snakes are definitely his thing! So week one has been focussed on helping him get more enjoyment from toys than from the occasional train that passes. We also wanted him to be able to experience heightened excitement without it tipping over into frenzy. And as Mr Bale's default greeting was to leap up to your face, we are using a coloured band (yup, it's an 'adopt me' collar) at knee height to encourage him to use 'touch' when he wants a treat, or a fuss. With grateful thanks to Caroline Cowan of CARDIFF CANINE CITIZENS for helping us devise an appropriate behavioural program for Mr Bale

Really hope we can offer him his forever sofa, I hate seeing his sad little face when he's got to go back in the kennels 😔 What time are you coming down? I usually do his afternoon session at about 3 o'clock. Bale isn't going out for walks yet, but you would be very welcome to join us in the garden!

Well it's been a terrific two weeks for Bale After a very short period of 'daily 'work, rest and play' sessions, Bale transformed from an anxious little dog to a superdog in the making! He progressed every day, and within two weeks he mastered... Touch Sit Stay Recall Wait (for food) Take it (for food) To your bed... And more than that, he learned to love and trust, he learned what it is to be a dog, to have a human in his life who cared about him, he learned to want to please, he learned impulse control, he learned so so much... Bale's 'passing out parade' was a walk around the car park, with two moving cars, and a he remained completely calm the whole time! Bale's forever peeps joined us for a number of his garden sessions, and saw this little guy literally transform. They had already fallen in love, and once they saw how quickly he was able to learn, they whisked him off to his forever home! I'm going to miss you so much little fella, it was an absolutely pleasure and privilege to know you. Be happy, love your new peeps with all your heart, and have a wonderful life. Kisses from your Aunty Sooz xxx

Mr Bale, now Harvey, has been home with us for 6 days now and what a little delight he is. We were surprised to discover when we got him home that he is more like a cat is disguise! He is a big girls blouse when it comes to walking in the rain - he stands there looking really sad asking to be picked up and taken home, he doesn't like getting his paws wet or muddy and he's not keen on being out in the wind either! At home he wants to be with you everywhere you go and inspect everything you do. When you sit down he curls up on your lap like a proper little lap dog. He is not houstrained whatsoever it appears, but he is so smart I think he'll learn in no time! We are coming along nicely with training too, we've picked up paw very easily, recall is still quite hit and miss if there are other dogs around and we are struggling to get our head around down too but then he has only been home 6 days! We love this little diva so much and can't wait for many more years of adventures.
