Please welcome our beautiful Snow Dogs - Athena and Aries Aries is the older of the two.... And Athena is a stunning young girl, full of energy! Both girls were brought in by a member of the public who found them together, with no owner in sight. They are microchipped, but the staff have been unable to contact the registered owner, and no-one has reported them missing. They seem in good health, although both girls could do with a good pedicure, and their coats are rather 'luxurious' at the moment! Walkers - feel free to bring an empty pillow case - we'll supply the grooming tools! It was their first day on the walkers register today, and both girls were sooooo happy to be able to stretch their legs in the garden! Although they are very close, and sing to each other from their separate kennels, they have quite different temperaments. Aries is much more people focussed, loved having a fuss, and is altogether quieter and more chillaxed than Athena. Aries will sit, give paw, and seemed to enjoy focussing on the treat hand! And Athena was just so happy to be able to stretch her young legs! Doing what huskies do! All they need is a sled to pull! Both girls are incredibly gentle taking food from fingers, they know how to share, and there was no competing for even the most succulent treats. If their owners don't come forward for them, the girls will be available for rehoming from 24th November. It would be ideal for them to be rehomed as a pair, as they are clearly very close, but the staff may consider rehoming them separately. If you'd like to meet Aries and Athena, or want more information, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. We had the pleasure of taking this pair out for a walk on Sunday. They are absolutely fantastic, such sweet dogs and very light on the lead particularly for Huskies! As Susie described these girls are the best of friends - they even liked to smell the same spots! But they do have very different characters! Aries is very laid back when out on her walks and she pulls less than Athena. Athena doesn't pull a lot but does seem to exude more energy and wanted to make sure we kept moving! We found the same thing as Susie also, Aries is much more people focused than Athena. Though when Aries was having attention Athena always came over to 'check it out' have herself a little scratch then off she went again! Both did like a little sit down towards the end of the walk where they enjoyed the attention! (Apologies for my distracting bright leggings! haha) We managed to have a little jog down the path with both these girls and they were perfectly behaved and didn't pull us at all! They seemed happy to stretch their legs a little and had perfect manners! So any walkers looking for a running buddy I highly recommend both these girls! I hope they find their forever home very soon and fingers crossed they can remain together!

Had the pleasure of taking the stunning Aries out today. No pulling on the lead, not bothered by other dogs and absolutely loved it when we broke into a run. On the way back stopped to give her a treat and she snuggled up for a cwtch and scratch.

We just couldn't resist taking these two gorgeous ladies out Thursday morning. Thankfully the weather had vastly improved since our last walks on Tuesday, so we didn't have to experience to soggy huskies! Aries and Athena are just wonderful dogs and though you'd think theyd easily overpower you, they walked excellently on lead. There was a little pulling, and who can blame them when they've been cooped up all day, but it was an easily controllable and even comfortable weight at the end of the lead, rather than a strain. Aries has the 'quieter' temperament of the two. She's slightly more docile and there's a little more slack to her lead, though she's a little less eager for a fuss or cuddle. She would turn back every so often to give us a sniff, and when we stopped for water she was happy enough to sit with us, but for cuddles with this lady I think you need to spend a little more time with her. Offer her a loving home and I'm pretty sure she'd love to curl up on a sofa for a cwtch! Athena is the younger and slightly more outgoing of the pair. She's a little more energetic and is a bit stronger on her lead, but she's much happier having a fuss and a cuddle. These two compliment each other so well in behaviour and personality. They took their treats very gently (though Aries wasn't fussed by our treat choice and very delicately dropped them after taking them) and offered up lovely sits when asked, though Athena took a tiny bit more persuasion. Athena certainly isn't camera shy, as you can see, whereas Aries was a little more discerning when it comes to photographers and I didn't manage to get one of her on her own. These girls are so alert and interested in everything, but are impeccably behaved on lead. Other dogs were interesting but they never needed too much encouragement to move along. Aries and Athena have obviously bonded, either in their old home or while straying, and they never went too far from each others side. They don't seem dependent on one another, they just like to be together. When one stopped for a good sniff of something, if the other hadnt stopped as well then it was only a matter of seconds before they slowed down to wait for their friend to catch up. They like to walk side by side and will often do very good furry bumper car impressions. I doubt that these two lovely ladies will be waiting very long before their rehomed, but I do hope they'll be going home together. While I've no doubt they'd be fine apart, once settled, I think theyd definitely be happier staying together.

It is not very often that we get the opportunity to walk two dogs together. And it is definitely not very often that we get to walk two beautiful husky girls together during the festive season - what a privilege! All we needed was a sled and some snow..... I was a bit concerned that these girls may be a little too strong for us but they walked beautifully on the lead. The smaller one of the two has a bit more energy and does pull a little but because she is smaller she is easily controlled. They obviously enjoy walking together, their heads were down and they were on a mission, not really bothering to sniff anything and not interested in having a fuss made of them (although they did like a couple of treats which they took really gently). Neither of them were bothered by traffic or other dogs, they behaved impeccably. An off lead spaniel came bounding towards us on the path to Grangemoor Park and I wondered whether we were going to be in trouble but luckily the spaniel's owner put it back on the lead just before it reached our two girlies. I would definitely take these two out for a walk again but hope they find a new home together soon.

We took this pair of stunners out this morning. As well as being absolutely beautiful they were a total pleasure to walk, very easy on the lead and very loving towards each other. We had to keep the walk quite short as it was half day opening and there were lots of dogs to take out, but they didn't seem to mind turning back when we did. All round lovely girls, it would be so great if they can find their forever sofa together early this year.

It's been a fantastic rehoming week for our northern breeds... Skylo, Lily, Pedro all left for their forever homes this week. And Aries and Athena really hit the jackpot! The staff were very keen to try to rehome our gorgeous girls together, but it was looking less and less likely that anyone would want to take on two dogs. Well, as it happens, the girls have been rehomed by two family members who live very close to each other, so the girls will have the best of both worlds! Their very own home, their own sofa, but every day they will get to see each other, to walk and play together - now isn't that kinda perfect!
