Well hello there handsome Please welcome the utterly adorable Oscar Oscar is five years old, and has been signed over to the Home by his owners. Although he can't go out for walks yet, as he isn't vaccinated, we took him down to the river to explore his new surroundings. Oscar is 5 years old, and seems in good condition. He's an agile young fella, and as light as a feather on his paws! Back in the vet room, we put Oscar through his paces, and he does have good basic training... Sit! He does the most adorable 'beg'... Shakes hands..... Takes treats sooooooo gently! Sniff first....... Ooooh, that's tasty! Oscar is quite 'foody'! His houndy nose is like a treat-seeking missile! I know there's something tasty hiding on the table!Oscar is available for rehoming from 12th February, and if you would like more information, or would like to meet him, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. I had a fun 2 hours walking with Oscar on Friday. Definitely led by his nose, he was very interested in all the bin bags we went past as we walked to the Barrage! He had mixed reactions to other dogs - small dogs were mostly ignored, but greyhound/whippet types got a lovely big woofy-howl and he wanted to go after them, ears up and tail a-wagging! One day you can play with them boy! He did flinch slightly when he saw some men (not all) and held back on the lead, don't know if he's had trouble from men in his past, but he greeted one of the male walkers with enthusiasm when we walked past him, so it's definitely not all men.
Oscar has such gorgeous, soulful eyes and was lovely company for me. I hope he finds his forever home soon!

Just completed my induction for walking dog; and the first dog I took out was Oscar, who's an energetic bundle of fun. He's gentle, lively and utterly adorable. Where did we walk? Wherever his nose led him. As soon as we left the home, his nose was down to the ground and we were off. This boy loves walking and sniffing everything and anything that might be even mildly interesting and really loves running, if you feel energetic enough to run with him He's sometimes a little unsure about people coming towards him; and let them know he's there with a glorious singing howl (which makes most people smile). A joy to take out and with gentle handling and plenty of walks, he'll make a wonderful loving pet and companion. (No issue with men)

Oscar! What a boy! We had a wonderful walk today and I got to know this delightful boy a bit more as the walk went on. He starts off at speed with his nose down, on a mission to sniff out everything in his path. We zigzagged this way and that and then he spotted another dog and treated us to his delightful howl!!!! No aggression, tail wagging!!! He gives a lovely sit and paw for his treats which he takes so gently. A gentler walk back with him trotting along next to me, looking up now and again with those soulful eyes! Oh, Oscar, I'd take you home with me if I could! X

Got to bring the fab Oscar on his third walk of the day this afternoon. Such a stunner! And boy, what a howl! You can practically start up a conversation, assuming you're not too embarrassed to be seen howling back and forth with a big, fluffy dog (which I am apparently not ) He can be a bit strong on the lead when he wants to be, but otherwise he's the perfect hound, nose to the ground with occasional check in to make sure, that yes, I am still following He does a lovely gentle sit and paw when offered a treat and honestly, if I could have brought him home with me I would have, he's such a great dog! And I was told upon our return that a potential family might be on the horizon, so hopefully (and somewhat sadly) I won't be seeing this handsome face at the home again!

Went out with scrummy Oscar for the third time today - he's so great! [Before I forget - absolutely no trouble with men - our first time must have been a strange anomaly] He came out with me for his second walk of the day and was practically bounding down the lane, eager to get out and explore, nose to the ground all the time. He's strong, but not unbearably so, especially if you're used to dogs of his size - I'm only 5'3" and not particularly fit and I'm able to keep up with him without worrying about losing him or having my arm pulled off! Oscar was a very chatty boy today, having a lovely howl at almost everyone we saw (human and dog!). Never aggressive with it, just very vocal. So obviously I joined in on several occasions! Some lovely sit-and-paw goings on as well. Oscar is just great! I'm sad that he's still in the Home after all this time - he's a sweet and gentle chap, and will make you laugh. If only I could have a dog, I'd snap him up. There must be a sofa for him out there?

Had some time for a second walk this afternoon and I couldn't resist the chance to take Oscar out again He pulled much less with me today - the lead was slack almost half the time. He dealt well with three off lead dogs in Grangemoor Park, did his customary howling, but the three others were more interested in him than the other way round. Good boy Oscar! He's also much better at waiting at crossings than when I first took him out. He's such a lovely dog

Another lovely time out with Oscar today, having not seen him for a few weeks. He just puts such a smile on my face - and, from the fuss from a few of the other walkers made of him, there's a lot of love out there for him The great news is I heard a little bird say he might have found himself a new family at last! If so, well done Oscar, you deserve it x
