We are absolutely thrilled to introduce you to Simba, a verrrrrrry special gentleman guest at Newport Dogs Home.
Simba arrived a little while ago, feeling very sad, not wanting to come out of his kennel, he simply laid in his bed, and to all intents and purposes, seemed to have given up on life. He has a swelling on his neck, and when the vets examined him, they looked inside his mouth, and confirmed that Simba has an untreatable cancer. The vets told the staff he was 'end of life', and the kindest thing to do was pts
Well, the staff and volunteers were determined that Simba's last memories would not be a lonely, concrete kennel. He would not go to his grave feeling unwanted, unloved and frightened. We brought him out of his kennel, into the sunshine, and this is what happened.....
We knew, we simply knew that even though Simba's owners had given up on him, there was no way that we could, or would.
Simba's prognosis is poor, as poor as it can be, he is going to die. But we're all going to die some day. That doesn't mean that we should be ushered to our death before our time, while we still have capacity to give and receive love, while there is joy in our lives... and there is still joy in Simba's life.
We are looking for a very special home for Simba, where he can have whatever time he has left enjoying the feel of soft grass under his paws, the warmth of the sun on his face, and all the love and kindness in the world, so when he whispers to his special person that he is ready to leave us for the bridge he will have a loving and caring hand holding his paw, someone telling him softly that it will be OK. Because it will be. When the time is right, it will be OK to let him go peacefully.
Simba isn't in pain, he loves playing ball, and when you are with him, he makes you feel like he has been saving up his love his whole life, just for you....
If you are able to give Simba the very special home he needs, for as long as he needs it, please contact the staff at Newport City Dog's Home on 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm -3.30pm Monday to Saturday.
