Collie fans - look who's landed Merlin is a stunning young Collie Boy, about a year old, and he's in fabulous condition We haven't quite found out what tickles his tummy yet. Merlin couldn't be tempted to take a paddle in the pool.... And wasn't particularly interested in chasing balls... But he was happy enough to trot around doing a lap of honour in the garden like a show pony who just won first prize at a local gymkhana If you'd like to meet Merlin please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME for more information. TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, neutering and microchip.

Hi Just spotted Merlin on the site....we have recently lost our dog of 16 years due to illness, the house feels empty without a dog in the family so are starting the process to find a new family member. We are a family of 4 - with 2 boys aged 11 and 16, really interested in border collie's and he's a stunner....do you have any more information on him, background etc, what sort of household he'd be suited to??

Hi Toxycat, We're so sorry to hear of your loss. It can be so hard when we lose a dog. Merlin is a stunning boy! He was signed over to the dogs home just over a week ago due to his owner becoming unwell. Initially he was extremely nervous but over the past week he has proven himself to be a clever collie who although has obviously missed out on some of his basic would in the right home be able to quickly pick up those things a young pup should learn. As such the home would prefer applicants with collie experience and Merlin proved very popular on Saturday with potential rehomers meeting him all through the day. Merlin met my children over the weekend and was only too happy to say "Hello!" ☺ If you are interested in meeting Merlin then I suggest you call the dogs home first thing tomorrow (Monday) or come down to visit at 11am when they open. There are a number of dogs at Newport City Dogs Home at the moment who would love to live in a family environment so if you do pop down, have a chat to the staff or volunteers and meet some of the other lovelies as well! That would be great...Im stuck in work next few days but off Friday....would love to pop down and see Merlin and the other dogs. Big decision for us as Holly our old dog was a massive part of our lives , excited to give a dog a second chance.

We fully expect Merlin to be happily curled up on his new sofa before the end of the week. You are so right when you say that it's a big decision to decide to adopt another dog. I don't know if it's possible but if you were able to pop down Saturday then the volunteers will be at the dogs home from 11am onwards and you'll be able to chat with some of them about your situation, likes and preferences and we can chat to you about the dogs at Newport, or even at Cardiff Dogs Home, if we think there might be someone there that you would like to meet. Staff are at the home 11am-1pm and 2pm-3.30pm on Friday. Either way, bring your happy feet and we'll see if there's someone who's ready to steal a little piece of your heart! As an additional note, Newport will ask for a vet reference, landlord's permission (if rented) and photos of your garden to support any application. So you might like to start thinking about those in readiness. That would be great...Im stuck in work next few days but off Friday....would love to pop down and see Merlin and the other dogs. Hi! I was wondering if anyone who's about on here could tell me a bit more about Merlin? I'm hoping to meet him tomorrow if he hasn't found a home yet. Thanks!

Hello Vikingkirk, Merlin is hoping to be moving to a new home very soon! Do pop down tomorrow though as the volunteers will be at Newport City Dogs Home and will be able to have a chat with you about some of the other dogs that are currently resident but who are not yet up on our forum here.
