There's been no shortage of little 'uns at Newport City Dogs Home recently! Please welcome our newest arrival, Wilf
Wilf arrived as a stray. No-one has reported him missing, and although he is microchipped it isn't a UK 'chip and the staff have been unable to retrieve his owners details. Sadly we are seeing more and more imported dogs in pounds and rescue centres all over the UK. We have no idea how or when Wilf arrived in the UK.
Wilf has been a little anxious and bewildered since he arrived. We have no way of knowing whether this is because of his change of circumstances, or whether he has always been a little nervous.
When Wilf first arrived, at every opportunity he made his way to the gates, and looked anxiously around, as if he was waiting for someone to come to get him.
But over the last few days he seems to be getting used to the routine of kennel life, and is a little more relaxed in the garden and out on his walks
Wilf is a very dainty and elegant little lad, and he struts around like a little show pony!
We did have a bit of a 'eureka' moment today though! We introduced Wilf to newbie girl Zelda, who was more than happy to step out with Wilf and Bas, and we really began to see Wilf relax, and 'be more dog'
It's possible that Wilf's second language - the one he is used to hearing - isn't English, but without a doubt his first language is 'dog' and it seems that woofers just don't have the same language barriers that people do! Wilf was in his terrier-element with his two new besties today!
If you think you could offer Wilf the home he needs, please contact the staff on 01633 290902, or pop up during opening hours. Between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, neutering and microchip.
