Hello there pretty girl Sadie was brought into the Home last week when she was found straying. She seemed a bit off-colour, her tummy was swollen and sore, and her two front legs are clearly mis-shapen, so rather than put her into a kennel we have whisked Sadie into the care of one of our most trusted volunteers who will be taking care of her while she is under the care of our vets. Sadie is friendly and affectionate, if a little timid at the moment. But as she relaxed and discovered that Miss Lesley is the source of the very best treats, we began to see Sadie's cheeky side! Ohhhh that pate is lip-smacking tasty! Sadie has been checked over by our vets, and is going back for xrays on Monday. Her fosterer says she doesn't seem to be in any pain from her legs, causes for front leg deformity can be injury, premature closure of the growth plate, or an inherited predisposition. Once we know more, we will update Sadie's thread. Meantime she will not be able to meet potential rehomers as she is still in the tender care of her fosterer, but we will update as soon as she comes back to Cardiff Dogs Home and is able to meet interested applicants. Sadie has been staying with me and she’s been a very busy girl in that time. She’s been spayed and her wound is healing perfectly. She’s also had an X-ray of her front legs to find out a little more information. Advice from the vet is that no intervention is required but she could possibly be at risk of arthritis in her elbows in older age. Functionally she isn’t affected at all. She’s on and off the sofa in a nano second and busies herself like any other happy little spaniel. She’s got a wonderful temperament, extremely loving and affectionate. She greets everyone as if they are her best friend. She had perfect manners with all the dogs she met in the vet’s surgery, being polite and interested in a tail wagging, ladylike way. She travels in a car like an angel. She was so quiet I had to stop and check I hadn’t left her behind. She settles happily in the house when left for a few hours and sleeps through the night with absolutely no whining or fussing. She does have one issue that she will need help and patience with. We don’t know her history but she has not been shown how to be reliably house trained. During the night she has been using puppy pads with increasing success and she is definitely responding to regular, hourly invitations to toilet outside. Successful outdoor toilets are met with rapturous praise. She is a very biddable little dog who thrives on praise and affection so I have no doubt that she can learn to be housetrained with the right help. What else can I add? She loves her food, cuddling up on the sofa with a person seems to be her favourite thing. She’s as gentle as a lamb. I haven’t heard her bark once. If she’s a bit worried she rolls on her back as if to say, ‘if I’ve done anything, I’m terribly sorry!’ She will clearly make a wonderful pet for her new family and will bring oodles of love and joy into their lives.

Sadie sends special kisses to Aunty Rach for taking such wonderful care of her When she arrived back at Cardiff Dogs Home after a week of tender care punctuated with quite a few vet visits, Sadie had some lovely rehomers waiting to meet her, and she found the perfect forever home in no time. Be happy in your new home sweetie
