Oh Petey - why so frightened little 'un?
Petey arrived recently as a stray. He's a darling little fella, but is afraid of his own shadow at the moment. He is very reluctant to make new friends with the staff and volunteers at the Home. He doesn't murmur, doesn't bark, but he hides himself away and tries to make himself invisible
Petey is very submissive, he doesn't seem to know what a lead is for, and cowered when we tried to walk him, so we decided we had to get the big guns out. Bas to the rescue!
As soon as Petey saw Bas he wagged his tail and ventured out from his hiding place in the pampas grass to follow Bas around the garden
Having an older, calm and confident dog around really seem to help Petey overcome his anxiety and Petey happily took turns in taking treats.
And he even ventured off on his own to take a drink!
Petey has dinky little legs, a verrrrrry long body, and we honestly can't even guess at his breed mix. His sad face and rather touselled coat make him appear older than he is. Petey has pearly white teeth and although he hasn't been aged by the vets we think he is quite a young dog.
Although Petey was obviously feeling a tiny bit better about being close to us, he still looked very solemn and serious
It's early days to expect too much of this little fella, but we're hoping that over the coming days Petey will get to know that he's in very safe hands, and will come out of his shell as time passes
He is spending most of his time in the office with some of the other residents and occasionally some of the volunteer dogs, and without a doubt Petey is happier around dogs than he is around people at the moment and although he is utterly harmless we don't want to push him, so interested applicants may need to make multiple visits and spend a lot of 'getting to know you' time with Petey.
If you'd like to meet Petey please contact the Centre on 01633 290902 or pop in during visiting hours, or pop in to meet him. 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays.
Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment and neutering.
