Please indulge me for a moment while I tell a little story involving my pooch giving me yet again one of her "wise owl" life lessons... Ever since I've had her, one of the traits that I most admired in her is her complete ability to be truly delighted about the smallest things. I'm - suffice to say - somewhat more melancholic than her, and today she taught me a little lesson about finding joy in the simple things. She found a ball. She often finds balls! Our lost-to-found ratio is most definitely in our favour. But this one was a sorry ball!!! Weather-beaten, almost bald, sodden... And she loved it! I say to her "you have such nice toys at home, what's so special about this one??" And it was as if she looked at me to say... "I know it isn't pristine by some standards, BUT... it's a perfect size, it's pre-chewed and smells gorgeous, it bounces really well and it's got the perfect degree of squidge. I'm also not perfect, I'm no pedigree, I have my faults, but you love me... and I love this ball - scruffy though as it is!!And she is, as ever, right. The best things in life are free. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And great things happen when you least expect it. Let's hope the pound gets lots of lovely visitors today, who have an open mind, and open heart and hope they'll be as lucky as I was with my little lady who is perfect to me.

That's a lovely story Conny. I think dogs have so much to teach us (certainly me) about the joys of living in the moment and appreciating the right things!
