what is the average time it takes for an out of cardiff home check to take place? i don't really want to phone the home as i know they're really busy but we haven't heard anything from our local warden (neath port talbot) about homechecking yet. i'm wondering if it always takes a while if it's out of the cardiff area.

Could you give your local dog warden a ring? Their name and number should be on the council website if you don't already have it.

Not really sure how home checking works? Is it before you can take a dog home?

For certain dogs, under certain circumstances, the Home will recommend that a homecheck is carried out. The Home would love to do a homecheck for every dog that leaves the Home, but up until now, homechecks have just be done by the wardens if the new home is in the Cardiff area. And obviously, if this fell on the wardens, they would have no time to do their warden duties. Friends and the Home are going to set up and train a homechecking team, but unfortunately, as both Cardiff wardens are currently off sick, this training has had to be deferred. We are not sure when Steve warden will be back in work For 'out of area' homechecks, the Home do have to rely on the warden service for the relevant authority (in this case Neath & Port Talbot). Some warden services have the resources to do them quickly, some (indeed, like Cardiff at the moment) have to fit them in around other responsibilities. It must seem like an interminable wait for you Fingers crossed something happens quickly. In the meantime, you can obviously come to CDH to visit and walk 'your' dog Good luck, and let us know how it goes ;D Susie x

Didn't realise there was such issues, I was going to offer my services if you just needed non Cardiff based checkers trained!
I hope the warden gets round to you soon, seems such a shame both you and doglet are having to wait! Sx

bow/lauren . she's so lovely and her behaviour is so typically american bulldog - barking at you when you take a rest on the walk, mouthing your hands when you play with her. she's gorgeous. i'd love to go back down the home and walk her again but the kids were heartbroken that we couldn't take her home last time so i'm keeping away until after the homecheck

We took her out last week Hwyaden. She is such a great character and I love her face so much. We thought we'd try sitting down to see if we could get a sneaky cuddle out of her but she thought this a terrible idea and barked until we carried on. Such a great girl. Hope you get her soon.
