Please welcome the very beautiful Yarna Yarna was very pleased to come out for her photoshoot today and enjoyed a quick stroll down to the riverbank to stretch her legs and have some getting to know us time before we started It was straight down to business for this girl and as soon as she got whiff of the sausages she was showing us her best sit and paw Yarna was very keen taking the treats (well, they were sausages!) so treats on the floor for this girl please walkers! For a bigger girl in a small room, Yarna certainly got around quickly once the toys came out! She had a few goes of fetch and then just took it easy, having a chew of the ragger toy All tuckered out! Good luck lovely girl! Yarna will be available for rehoming from 5th February, but the staff at the home will take applications on her now. If you have any questions on Yarna or would like more information on her please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click on the link below: Rehoming Process

Took this lovely lady out for a good hour this morning, what can I say, she is stunning, lost count of the amount of head turns this girl got! She is a big, strong girl, but manageable on the lead, I was told she could be a bit jumpy but I had none of that on our walk She does pull a bit towards other dogs, but showed no signs of aggression when she did so. We walked up the Ely trail, along the river towards Leckwith, she loved to sniff anything and everything! And when she did, made the most fabulous snorts! We sat on a bench before we started heading back, she gave me a gentle lick and enjoyed a head and chest rub, she seems the type of girl who is more than happy to be given affection once she knows she can trust you, she will then be your friend for life I love striking up a bond with a particular dog, and it was lovely the way Yarna came to me and gave the most gentle lick, as if she was telling me that she trusts me Look forward to spending more time with this lovely girl xxx

Don't let her 'Macho dog' collar fool you. Yarna has some of the calmest walks I've had. She is admittedly a strong girl , but if you show her strength and respect ( not by pulling or yanking the lead but with a firm grip) she will respect you and walk with you instead of walk you. She can get a little 'guard' like when confronted by dogs who pass her too excited or are displaying overly defensive behaviour and when there are dogs running around off lead but with a little encouragement she will move on with her walk.During this time I haven't seen any aggressive behaviour from Yarna herself and she is quiet well behaved with the matter. It might be worth noting that unlike some dogs , I've noticed Yarna will avoid puddles and obvious bodies of water. She is fine in mud but will make the effort to jump over or walk around puddles. Not sure why... Yarna is quiet determined on walks and will give everything a good sniff . We have stopped for a cuddle and she tried to give me a rottie smooch in the shade, sometimes it does get a bit warm for her outside. She always greets me when I go by her kennel and I stop and say hello to give her a break from kennel noise. I hope you find a strong home as you're probably be a little stronger by the time you're older. But bigger pups means bigger cuddles and who could say no to that? I know I wouldnt! -L

I've passed Yarna twice on walks with other dogs. She has the shiniest coat I've ever seen, and although a big girl, never appears to be being a handful. We passed her with Gabriel earlier today and she didn't bat an eyelid. She's absolutely gorgeous.

Gabriel is an absolute sweetheart on walks , I've passed him a few times and he's just gotten on with his own business, I think most the lurchers at the home are like that , its more the poorly socialised or overly anxious dogs shes wary of , shes fine with most dogs , maybe I should have added that .

Hi Lisa Yarna arrived as a stray so unfortunately the staff dont have any history on her to know if she has ever lived with another dog. For this reason the staff would ask you to bring your lad to the Home to meet her and see how they get along together. Gentle intro's would be done at first and if all went well they could take things further lol. Maybe pop down to meet Yarna by yourself first, take her for a walk and see what you think! She's a lovely girl x

Oh I've missed taking this big softie out for walks , I don't know why but while we were walking she started sticking her leg out as if it was hurting. So I stopped and crouched down to see if she was okay and I think it was just an act because she was straight in my face for a kiss and so I gave her a little scratch and then as if by magic ( the magic of scritches maybe?) she was fine for the rest of the walk. This gentle giantess always walks so nicely by my side , yes , she is strong but she rarely shows it out on our walks and it's never been something I ( a 20-something year old female) couldn't handle. She's got so much loyalty and affection to give , so if you're into bigger dogs or had them before , then she is definitely the girl for you!

Got to take lovely Yarna out this afternoon. She has improved massively on the lead, she was a good girl before but there was very rarely slack on the lead, today, after the initial tug down the lane that most of the dogs do, she spent the walk with a slack lead, looking back at me, and licking my hand when I called her name some idiots decided to ride dirt bikes up the Ely trail right passed us, and Yarna was such a good girl, just stood by my side while they went passed, really wish they would not do it though She still could do with some socialisation around other dogs as she does pull towards them, but she does not bark or show aggression so it's hard to gauge her intentions towards them. Really enjoyed taking this gentle giant out today, she is a lovely girl, don't let her big size put you off, she is a sweetheart. I am also seriously considering getting her a new collar, it's good that she has one but the ' Macho dog ' wording on it really does not suit this lovely girl Xx
