I knew Jay when he was with his last owners who gave him up and took him back to the home they got him from; although I think it may have been a blessing as contradicting as that is. He lived above my shop and we shared a court yard. Poor Jay was surrounded by concrete walls there too and would lie down peeping through the 1 inch gap under the garage door trying to get a glimpse of something entertaining. He escaped a few times and ran for the hills, literally. Love him. I bring my dog to work with me and he met Jay plenty of times, I would take him out to play and sometimes bring Jay in. Jay was very very friendly and playful, he wasn't aggressive in any way. He is an absolutely gorgeous boy and doesn't deserve this bad start to life. He deserves a loving home with people who can spoil him and give him lots of walks and cuddles. I check every few days to see if lovely Jay has found his forever home but 6 months on and he's still there, it breaks my heart. If I could have him then i would in a heart beat, but I am moving to Australia next year and already have 2 dogs to organise and pay for. Please consider taking on the lovely Jay, it will be the most rewarding experience and Jay will be the happiest pooch in the world, which is all he has ever wanted. Good luck and keep us posted. xxxx

I am absolutely staggered that Jay is still at CDH! He is gentle (very gentle for a staff). A pleasure to walk. Interested in other dogs but he is not vocal. No pulling but loves to stop and mark. Overall an absolute gentleman!

I took Jay for a home visit 2 days ago and he behaved like a perfect gentleman for the 5 hours he was with me. We had a lovely walk around Penarth Marina after which he made himself very comfortable in my home. He enjoyed looking out of the window and seeing what was taking place (especially when a cat happened along). With my blessing he installed himself on one of the settees to have a sleep after our long walk. It was lovely to see him feel so at ease. I can't imagine why he hasn't found his forever home as he's well behaved, doesn't have an issue with other dogs and is nice natured.

I had a date with dreamboat Jay yesterday morning. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and we happily trotted over Leckwith hill. It was a long walk and Jay was brilliant the whole tine, wagging his tail and ignoring other dogs and passers by. He is such a mild mannered chap, unflappable and would make someone a lovely companion. Love you Jay xxx

We had to have our faithful crossbreed Jack (13) PTS last Friday while on holiday with him. Today we took cans of food to the home and had a little look around. We got Jack from the home 12 or so years ago. Jay was one of the dogs that sort of connected with us. It was a little late in the day to spend too much time with him today (and we are hurting so). We spend many weekend away at country fairs etc and his demeanour from the experiences above seem to fit that. I am surprised he has been in so long - why would that be?

Every so often we'll look at the forum and walker list and sigh sadly when we spot Jay's name still there. This handsome boy is near enough to faultless as a dog can get, and it confuses me endlessly as to why he's still waiting for his forever home. He's a sturdy dog but the weight at the end of the lead is never too much - it's more reassuring than anything else. Jay does come out of the Home like he's on a mission, but within minutes he's walking almost at heel and tugging only so he can go track down that interesting smell that he needs to add to. Nothing much bothers him, not loud traffic, other dogs, bikes, or people. He shows a little interest but it's never more than that. Jay is just happy to be walking and, once a suitable amount of walking has been done, be given a fuss. He's one of the smiliest dogs I've ever met and there's always a waggy tail when you give him even a little bit of attention. We always stop at the benches towards the start of Grangemoor park for water and treats, and Jay was only too happy for a cuddle and tummy rub. He gives incredibly gentle kisses and takes treats very softly, and shows off the best sit and paw! He seemed to realise when we were heading back towards the Home and tried to delay our return with some rolling in the grass and demands for tummy rubs - who can refuse that gorgeous face?! Jay has been at the Home for far too long and I have everything crossed that his new family will find him soon.
