Pat, one of the lovely dog walkers, says:
'Poor Aztec was nervous to start but coming out of her shell. She is loving and sociable with the dogs that she has met on her walk and also did not pull. She is a big dog and perhaps has not reached her full potential!!. She has no training yet but is willing to please and easily makes eye contact so this can be progressed.'
Awww, she's only a baby at a year old and not her fault if she has had not training so far. She does sound easily trainable though as she's willing to please and makes good eye contact - and she's so beautiful -

Aztec and I went out for a walk today. It was like taking Paula Radcliffe with whiskers out for a stroll. That girl just wants to run and run. She's got so much energy. It would have been wonderful to have taken her to a beach or somewhere where she could have just let rip and stretched those long legs. At first she was so excited to be out she wasn't even interested in having a treat, but after a while she took some treats gently and really enjoyed them. She does sit but she needs to be in a quiet place where she can focus and she needs a little pressure on her back to give her the cue. She met a very feisty Jack Russell who had no manners at all, but didn't snap back at him, and later when she saw him playing with a ball she was just desperate to join in the game....so she is a girl who doesn't harbour a grudge. She gives her walker a lot of eye contact and her tail is always wagging. When you sit down for a breather she comes to you for fuss and affection. I did break into a jog for a short stretch and she trotted along very nicely beside me - obviously enjoying the quicker pace. Sadly I'm not a runner!

Just wanted to add a little footnote to my last post about my walk with Aztec as I thought of some other things I'd missed. It's true you can't miss her energy and 'joie de vivre' , but she was walking on a short lead very nicely too. She would just benefit from the opportunity to practice. She is such a sweet natured dog, and I have no idea what her bark sounds like as she doesn't do the barking thing when she is excited. At one point on the walk I tripped and trod on her toe accidentally and she just gave a yelp and looked at me as if to say, 'I beg your pardon.' I hope she finds a loving home soon - she would just blossom!

Think this is the lovely girl we met yesterday when out walking Rosie, my "no manners at all" jack russell (oops, sorry, didn't realise my girl had made such a bad impression)! When I looked at the site last night, thought we'd met Tia, but now it looks like it was Aztec. She was soo gorgeous and friendly, hope she finds a really good home soon, the lady walking her said she'd been there quite a while, can't understand why! So impressed with the work all you guys do, hoping to become a volunteer myself when I have a bit more time later this year.

Hey Sal - nice to see you here Being a 'volunteer' is as easy as 'liking' our FB page, giving our dogs a *bump* here, whatever you can do, it all helps promote the dogs. Keep an eye on our Events section Aztec is a beaut eh? I never 'get' how/why some doglets fly out, and some have to wait a while... Aztec reminds me a little of Squidge, and how long did she wait for the right home Fingers crossed Aztec's perfect home is just around the corner

Hi Sal, Oooops ! Poor Rosie - I'm sorry if I caused you by my post. I'm so glad you got in touch and are interested in volunteering now. Hopefully we will meet up again and do a dog walk together - I can meet Rosie again and put the record straight. Thank you for saying such nice things about Aztec. She is such a great dog and it's lovely when people who don't know her can see that about her straight away. Rachel

Hi there Rachael Heheh, we 're cool. Rose is a typical JRT and very boisterous! I have found myself thinking about Aztec (was she originally called Tia?) a lot. She made a really good impression on me, a lovely friendly, bouncy girl, and the photos really don't do her justice. After meeting you that day, I have just now become a supporter of the dog's home and hope to be able to register as a dog walker and home checker shortly - I used to be a home checker for Cats' Protection many years ago. Hope Aztec/Tia finds a lovely forever home soon, or I may be tempted to take her on!! Salx

Walked Aztec at the SWALK today. She was excited to be out and about and would have loved to have played with everyone she met. She is such a pretty girl....those big adoring eyes looking up at you for approval as you walk her. She is still very puppy like and excitable and would benefit from training as she does pull a little on the lead, but she seemed eager to please and loved to be told that she was a good girl. ;D ;D

Beautiful photos of Aztec. I had a lovely time walking her in the snow at the SWALK on Saturday. Would love to be able to walk the big softy again .........but would much prefer it if she was to find her forever sofa. She is a big softy and really deserves a really good forever home. She loves having cuddles and walks and would love to ha ve a new home and she really deserves it. I wish I could take her home myself but I think my mum might have something to say about that!
