I'm gutted. I've walked Max dozens of times and he was so good with people. Such a shame he really could not get on with other dogs. Clearly this was something that was trained into him. Irresponsible dog owners that see these animals, especially strong breeds, as some sort of status symbol need their heads examined. If Max had been taught to respect other dogs like he did people from puppy age this could have been avoided. The guys at the home become so attached to these dogs and put in a lot of effort with the tougher cases, it's horrible for them when they have to make this decision. Rest easy big boy.

Absolutely appalled!!! I thought better of Cardiff Dogs Home. To destroy a healthy dog is disgraceful. Three healthy dogs, that we know of, in a week or so, MAX, RANGO and MILO. I have shared these dogs on many groups, made posters for them, share them in my own groups. I know this is a POUND at the end of the day but I still thought better. Very disheartened and very glad that my ROLY aka SID got out when he did or he would no doubt be in this folder too as a long termer. Who is next? Please tell us who is in danger so that we can promote them more, work harder for them! We can help better if we know more! Is TYSON in danger or/and BRUCE as they are also long termers? Very saddened by this :-(

I totally agree with Hilary... To be honest, the way I found out, by reading it on here, was absolutely soul destroying. It absolutely killed me, I was so upset that I got sent home from work. Max was not just a link on a forum, he was my friend and he had many friends in the walkers. I really, really, really would have appreciated being given a heads up so I could have done EVERYTHING in my power to find him a suitable home. I have seen MANY success stories about dogs who are on death row who find a home (sometimes half way across the country!) due to the power that facebook has. The same goes for Rango and Milo too! What hurts the most is knowing I wasn't given the chance to say goodbye or to persude the many dogless home owners I know. When people find out dogs are going to be put to sleep, people panic. People never let a healthy dog to be put down, especially not a gentle soul like Max. I love you & RIP my boy xxx

I've been on this forum for a while and I know that CDH tries very hard not to pts a healthy dog. When a dog is under threat of pts, would it be possible to let the forum know, as very often then someone will come forward.

Decisions regarding dogs that are put to sleep are made by Cardiff Dogs Home management after consultation with the staff involved in caring for the dogs. The staff work closely with the dogs growing very attached to them and do not take the decision to put them to sleep lightly. As well as the dogs welfare Cardiff Dogs Home also need to be concious of public safety. If you have any questions on this you need to direct them to the Manager of Cardiff Dogs Home (details can be found on their website).

RIP lovely boy. So sad when I saw this post and I only saw it because I wondered where he had gone from the rehoming section. I sat in the house saying no over and over. Poor boy didn't have a good start but at least he saw some love and affection through the staff and walkers. The thing I find hardest about this is knowing how hard everyone has worked for other dogs such as Elsa. It's such a shame and I am sure it wasn't an easy decision to make. Run free lovely xx
